A spate of dangerous interactions between tourists and feral horses in Kosciuszko National Park has prompted the NSW Government to consider closing a popular camping ground. A National Parks and Wildlife Services risk assessment seen by the ABC shows in the lead-up to the peak summer season, park staff considered it likely a wild horse would cause an injury that needed medical attention or hospitalisation and it was also possible such an incident could be fatal. It came after a 16-year-old boy was treated for shock and taken to hospital when he was struck in the shoulder by a feral horse as a mob galloped through a camping ground at the north side of the park in December. According to a list of incidents seen by the ABC, that same month a family cut short their Kosciuszko holiday after their 10-year-old boy was kicked in the shoulder by a horse. An increase in reports of horses causing havoc at the Blue Waterholes camping grounds prompted the risk assessment. https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-06/wild-horses-pose-high-risk-to-kosciuszko-campers/10874294
Horses don't give a fuck man. They're easily startled, yes, but if they know what's up, or they just don't care, they'll fucking blow through you like you weren't there.
Further evidence they need to be culled. But no, you'll get a million crying idiots going "muh brumbies!"
I don't know you but I hope you are joking.
100% serious they need to cull every feral animal in this country.
Its only feral until someone with dollars says its not. These animals do not known they are considered feral and it is our own fault they are here. Murder is murder etc.
Horses cared for by "someone with dollars" have been hand reared, are contained, and do not pose an active threat to public safety. If you have aggressive, 1 ton animals running around kicking the shit out of people for the hell of it, they need to be culled. Horses are not native to Australia and even if they were do not have some magic inherent right to attack and possibly kill people indiscriminately. We have animals that do that here. Do you know how we take care of them? We gun them down en masse from helicopters.
How precious.
That'll never happen, the people with dollars are on the side of letting them roam free, so they can run a business catching pregnant wild horses, tying them to a tree, waiting for them to give birth, taking the foal to sell and leaving the mother to die of dehydration.
When are horses getting a PETA group?
I was just about to post something similar. I dunno how many times when I lived in Washington State a wild animal would find its way into the city area. Once it was in the city the animals started acting aggressively and had to be shot by the police. Animals have to be conditioned a certain way in order to be safely handled and some types of animals will never be 100 percent domesticated. Wild horses are fucking dangerous and I don't get why people underestimate that fact.

Maybe I am biased because I love horses, but we should not slaughter them. They're lovely animals in the right circumstances.
I agree, I'd rather live in a world where snot faced kids get hoofed in the face by horses than a world where Download gets to ride in his helicopter.
I remember when people in the UK collectively lost their shit when it turned out Iceland ready meals might be 0.25% horse.
I remember it well, I'd actually like to try a horse steak, I suppose there's a good reason why it's not normally available but I'd be quite happy to experiment with the meat sometime, can probably make good sausage at the least.
I'm all for the Brumby Genocide. Get 'em the fuck out, they're ruining the land for our native species.
As Download said and in the video ImpressiveWalrus posted wild horses in Australia (called Brumbies here) mess up the environment with their hoofs because Australia has never had a native hoofed animal to adapt to. As a result both native wildlife and the horses starve to death when the topsoil erodes away. Not too sure how true the last part about tying up horses to give birth and leaving them to die is though.
They're a non-native invasive species that are destructive to that are destructive to Australia's vulnerable, unique wildlife and environment. There was a debate over there about whether or not they should be culled and in deciding not to, the Australian government ran roughshod over the scientific advice they were receiving precisely for people's feels over reals response to the idea. https://www.smh.com.au/environment/sustainability/top-scientists-blast-nsw-government-over-brumbies-20181108-p50etv.html Invasive species and habitat loss our biggest biodiversity threa..
Any animal is lovely under the right circumstances but how do you control wild animal populations without killing them, practically anyway.
name fits
Horses are nature's greatest monsters. My mother's best friend owned a horse for nearly twenty years, and one day she got on her beloved horse to ride, perfectly nicely and calm, as she always did, and the horse threw her off hard enough to break her spine, just because "nah". In a wheelchair ever since. She laid there for three hours before someone found her, and the horse just stood there and did not care. It just went back to grazing
You sound like you are trying to justify killing the jews or something with your soppy writing. Fuck off with your sop story. Horses were not created for your grandma to ride, never blame the animal for you interrupting there life. This place seems to have done a comeplete 180 on animal sentience.
I can't believe you actually wrote that with full sincerity.
Its about solving the problem without hate and violence.
What part of it is hate? This is such a childish opinion. These horses are an invasive species that has grown out of control. It's destroying the land, and killing native species. We put them there, and we should be the ones to remove them. If you can find a realistic way to solve this without culling them, then go ahead and propose that. But I don't see how that could be done.
Look at the proganda some of you are writing about evil horses. I am just hear to tell you guys how fucked you sound, I do not know how to solve this problem.
Do you honestly think that a few horses are more important than dozens of native species and an entire ecosystem?
"Proganda about evil horses" I assume you mean propaganda. Did you even read the article? There are multiple reports about these horses attacking people. Horses erode the soil, and they occupy important waterholes, preventing native animals from using them. There are multiple studies showing horses are terrible for native Australian species and their habitat. There is no need to write propaganda, it writes itself. Don't get me wrong, a regular horse is a fine animal, but these invasive feral horses are nothing but a pest. Either we remove them, or native species will go extinct.
Coulda sworn shitposting was bannable, seeing a lot of that from you here. An animal at the end of the day is an animal, nothing more. If you really think that a serious danger to people should be left unfettered by us to roam and just fuck an entire ecosystem up, might be you that's a bit fucked in the head. You're ignoring what people are saying and ignoring the articles linked about how damaging a foreign invasive species is, and acting like we're being hateful towards a group of people and not a dangerous group of wild animals. We're not saying ALL horses should be killed, just cull off a decent amount of the feral ones. Solve the issue, not kill everything. It's like saying the boars in America aren't harmful in the south east. It's just being willfully ignorant.
