captain marvel was solid. fun and charming.
I also enjoyed Captain Marvel. Had some stuff I wasn't expecting, Carol was a lot more likable than the trailers hinted. I am somewhat concerned about the power level we're setting now, though. And I thought the rest of the Avengers were redundant when Thor was around...
I kinda had a feeling she would be, considering how little the trailers gave away anything else.

One of the main reason I'm looking forward to Avengers: Endgame is that we'll finally be able to put all these superflous movies behind us, to be honest
in exhange for 20 more superfluous movies
too bad endgame won't be the endgame of you nerds paying to see this crap reheated every other month
Man, we could really cover some narrative ground if they really did release them every other month. That doesn't sound sustainable in attracting general audiences though.
They won't because of Disney. Disney releases only one film every month so none of their productions compete with one another in theaters. Because of this, Marvel movies have to slide in between Star Wars, live action Disney films, and any of Disney's subsidiary films.
It was mostly a joke on Mr-grumpy-McBanme-pants up there. Even I think that would be a bit much. I have thought sometimes, though, how the MCU movies might benefit from having some downtime or somekind of filler somehow. We only ever check in with the Avengers when the world is about to end. It's like the whole war with Hydra between Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron is just glossed over forgotten. I know Agents of SHIELD covered it, but I'd like to get a sense of what the big guys are doing between crises sometimes.
Watching the movies back to back I tend to see a trend where Disney becomes so focuses on the next story that they forget a lot of events that happened prior. Much of it is in regard to character development but the repercussions to certain events in previous movies are outright ignored a lot.
I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. Really didn't see what was causing so many people to seeth over it.
It was what Brie Larson said outside the movie
and then corrected herself about
It became the center peice of one of those PC - anti-PC circle jerks. I had a feeling that's how it would turn out. I'm gonna go see it sunday
Eh, I honestly don't mind the superhero movies in general, but I do mind the repetitiveness of cinematic universes. As much as people initially gave DC movies flak for trying to shoehorn in a dark tone across all of their movies regardless of the source material, I feel the MCU overtime has become guilty of the other extreme. Post-Avengers 1, all of their movies are just safe and palatable action-comedy movies with unneeded quipping. I'll probably be hopping off-board of the MCU after Endgame - not because of me being tired of all superhero movies, but specifically with me being tired of the MCU style of action-comedy. At this point, I wanna see movies that push the envelope and break the mold - stuff like Dark Knight, Logan, Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 (it was original for its time), or Watchmen.
Yeah just came to this thread to say the same thing, wasn't the best movie ever, the beginning was pretty weak but overall I really enjoyed it
Just got back from it. Definitely a good Marvel movie. Not a fan of 90s music but the bits they chose were well thought out. The Stan Lee commemoration in the intro of the Marvel Studios logo was great.
i reported this post
I had heard enough of it when I was growing up in the 90s. That was good enough
I really liked captain marvel! Not my favorite but it really fit into the whole MCU very well and was better than i expected.
What did she say outside the movie exactly?
https://nypost.com/2019/02/12/brie-larson-isnt-letting-captain-marvel-press-tour-be-overwhelmingly-white-and-male/ She later clarified herself due to the backlash: https://movieweb.com/captain-marvel-brie-larson-inclusion-controversy/
I thought the movie was pretty good. As someone who had his childhood in the 90s, the music and pop culture references were a treat for me. Brie's acting wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad, IMO. The revelation about the Skrulls in the last act was good, and the mid credits scene gave me shivers. The finale was lacking, I think. She defeats the enemy too easily.
That final note is how I felt about the final acts of Captain Marvel as well as Alita. At certain points I just sat back and thought, "Why am I worried? She's gonna be fine." Both characters were pretty competent and powerful, so there wasn't much cause for tension. I was more worried about Talos and Fury's eye than I was about Carol, now that I think about it. Sure, it was a fine power trip, but I wasn't extremely invested like I was in the finales of, say, Civil War and Infinity War. While I would've appreciated more of a struggle on Carol's end, I still really enjoyed Captain Marvel overall.
I went in with no expectations and like Captain Marvel more than some of the other standalone Marvel movies we've got lately. I feel it was a stronger movie than Black Panther or Ant Man and the Wasp last year. A lot of the humor worked and I liked the entire cast of characters. Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn were both really funny to me and I liked Brie Larson in the movie and helped elevate for me what I could see others find lacking. I thought the start of the movie was a little slow, but once Captain Marvel shows up on earth it was pretty fun the rest of the way through.
Personal opinion here, but the way they adapted the Skrulls in that movie seems to me like a cheap way to get even comic book fans surprised inside the theatre, no matter how much sense or how interesting the twist actually is
I'm just sad that the movie kinda hints that Secret Invasion is probably never gonna happen. Other than that, I don't really have any problems with it. Just kinda felt like a typical origin story lol.
I wouldn't be so sure about that: 'Captain Marvel'
