It wouldn't be so weird except for the fact that The Time Machine is a co-production of Dreamworks and Warner Brothers, with some part of distribution handled by Paramount (Sky Captain as well), all of who are separate entities from Stargate's owner, MGM. The composer of the film isn't the same either. Also Jeremy Irons looks like a Wraith, lol. https://youtu.be/90T7iLuzFgg?t=100 After some digging I found that Stargate music is also used in a trailer for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. https://youtu.be/cY3ypQD6p2s?t=28 Using scores from other films in trailer isn't new, but to me using music from Stargate a bit like licensing out music from Star Wars or Star Trek for b-movies. It's interesting to see that Stargate apparently has such minimal value in Hollywood that its music could actually be bought and used for other purposes.
How the fuck did I never notice this????
Did you know that The Spongebob Squarepants Movie features musical sample that corresponds to Starship Troopers FedNet March? https://youtu.be/TwLVpGfg5lo?t=120 https://youtu.be/UwteHQoYfLQ?t=9 Music in films can be... fascinating.
As an aside, I love the look of the time machine in that 2002 movie I liked that movie as a kid
2002's The Time Machine, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, are literally the only two films I have ever actively decided to rewatch. I love them both so much. The films haven't aged great in the years since, especially The Time Machine. But that doesn't change the place they hold in my heart or my childhood.
oh I see. looking back, I thought I was maybe insane when I was a kid because I kept noticing this kind of stuff then but never now. good to know I was sorta sane :v
That reminds me, I remember back when the first trailers for Disney's Mulan came out there was this epic soundtrack in the background of it and I thought it was in the movie, but it wasn't. I later heard a very similar song in the Mr. Bean movie and assumed it came from there. Trailer in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G2x69ILduk The music I thought it was from. (1:17) https://youtu.be/rR1qV2KxKK0 But after doing further research, I found out the music is actually "To the Stars" from the Dragonheart Soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmF3a_RgimU
This is not starship troopers https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110042/57ea2ef9-5d90-4611-8d0e-2918b186cc69/scififantasy003.2.jpg
This happens all the time. I remember in the early 2000s, there were trailers all the time that used the theme from "The Island" almost fucking everywhere. I wonder how many people recognize this track from trailers alone: https://youtu.be/_iu-t1n821M?list=PLC702F8173DE7719B
After Earth's trailer also used a song from Deus Ex: Human Revolution https://twitter.com/DeusEx/status/311055242777210881 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKIXQdv4G7o
The bit that's weird for me is I usually hold Stargate as the third of the holy space opera trinity with Star Trek and Star Wars. Obviously is must not have that much street cred because of its IP being using in weird places like these trailers.
I remember vaguely hearing stargate music in something - and I was never able to find it again. I guess it was one of the many trailers.
The least expected Power Rangers source.
Oh yeh, I remember this phemenon of trailer music reuse. Here's one I noticed as a kid: The trailer music for the Disney Bridge to Terabithia movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2TDSEG57hI The foreboding parts during 0:20-0:46 (and anyone who knows the story knows exactly why they did that...) are pulled from the opening melody of the 2006 Poseidon Adventure remake. Go figure. :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD78hAyf4NE
