Travel to Europe is going to get slightly more complicated in 2021. Starting that year, visitors from the U.S. will need to get an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa before entering countries in the Schengen zone. According to ETIAS, the Europe visa measure is, “similar to other countries and regions in the world,” and aims to “improve security … to avoid any further problems with illegal migration and terrorism.” The new requirement stems from an E.U. vote we covered in 2017, which passed a measure
In early 2017, the European Union went back and forth over whether or not to pass new visa laws for Americans. In May 2017, the European Commission decided against reinstating visas for Americans, but stated that the decision was contingent upon the U.S. reciprocating visa-free travel for Europeans. At the time, then-secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) John Kelly said that the U.S. needed to reexamine its visa-waiver agreement with Europe, citing potential terrorism risks.
thanks Trump.
Our interconnected world is fracturing.
This seems almost identical to the ESTA, which is required for entry of the US as a EU citizen and has been in place since 2009.
Yeah, an ESTA takes about 15 minutes to apply for online so no big deal really.
Looks like the memes have got to them
I thought this was already the case for every country, so I can't be upset at something I thought was the standard.
How is that different from what we currently have to do then?
Still annoying, luckily the last one I got serves me for 3 years instead of three months like my first one.
ya from the article we had a pretty easy to use system that was quick and painless, now who knows, the US side of visas is a clusterfuck by design and its going to further hurt the tourism industry here that's been pummeled by years of the recession and then Trump's idiocracy.
I for one welcome refugees fleeing Trump presidency
