Good thing he had 24 minutes of shit talking at the end so the viewer completely forgets about any of the positives he said. This is why the prosecutor has the final closing argument in a trial, they have a burden of proof so they get the "advantage"
seems rather bold for an internet journalist to be personally telling gabe newell what to do.
He's just reading GlassDoor reviews. That said, I'd probably give Valve a go, at the very least it'd be interesting to see if I could "make it", and I'd love to it least give a go at spearheading some game engine business practices.
Not only are Glassdoor reviews typically left by disgruntled employees (typically same with Google and Yelp reviews), but can't someone basically bullshit their way about working for a company to leave a review? I'm sure Glassdoor reviews have their use, but it just seems like a system that is easily gamed, especially for game companies.
You can literally just make a glassdoor account and review any company you want, they dont go out of their way to verify it or not.
Does anyone else think it's kinda weird how much some people still obsess over Valve despite it clearly not being the same entity it was 15 years ago? Like, if they were still making content that you enjoyed and there was lots of news and speculation coming out, then sure go ahead, but at this point dedicating all this time to one game studio that's not even really that active has to feel like just going through the motions
It's an odd video. I can see if he emailed employees for candid opinions, but just reading GlassDoor reviews? Chances are people are more likely to leave a review if they had a negative experience than positive. I wouldn't doubt if the reports are true, though. I've always heard rumors of bullying and cliques being formed.
These reviews sound a lot like stuff he's said in the past in other videos regarding emails from employees
"Some employees are more equal then others and the ears and mouth pieces of board members" Already I never want to work for Valve. Thank goodness that they're work requirements are so high that I probably never will
very weird for some guy in his bedroom reading glassdoor reviews on a stream to be telling a multibillionaire how to run his company
It's not his bedroom.
Those just sound like angry ex employees that didn't mesh with the structure more than any actual issues.
I'm sure the bribes to make things Epic Exclusive help too.
For a 30 minute video, you'd expect some actual investigative journalism, some back and forth with actual former devs talking actual issues rather than relaying their vague impressions, like so: https://youtu.be/AynvqY4cN8M That said, Gabe playing Dota 2 against bots all day is a fact, we learned this from his own son. I'd say even a basement dweller is correct to call him out on that, so long as he at least does videos on the side.
Gotta play a bit dirty if you're the underdog, although in theory some actual competition that's well, competitive instead of just being there should encourage Valve to make Steam even better. That's the theory, at least.
Even if this were justified, it's certainly not when you don't actually have a better product in any way
When it comes to market competition, it can either be a race to the top, or a race to the bottom. Epic is very clearly shooting for the latter.
Honestly it's a shame, people once looked up to Valve.
He should at least edit the video so it correlates with his points instead of just having gameplay. Also for a guy who wants a job at valve telling them all the flaws in their own company is a little dumb.
I still remember all the "Good Guy Valve" memes from 2007. Its pretty weird to think about.
Do you have some sort of deep and intimate familiarity with Tyler's bedroom you'd like to share? 🤔
Nope, just aware of the difference between a home office and a bedroom.
He lives in a house with his fiance
It's like the one that got away. 30 years from now I'll still be yearning.
it's a sad universe I live in to say that Half Life and Metal Gear are my two favorite series I just want to stop hearing about Valve at this point. They can be around, and be as successful as they possible can strive for; but I just don't want to hear about them anymore. God bless them. At least Resident Evil came back strong (what a world we live in)
ok guys no more steam for any of you, epic games only. it literally sounds like you guys think there's ANY server better at all that loves their customers, gives us all these fucking cheap deals over the past 10+ years lol
