https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKPWkEI7ms Actually a really fascinating video about piracy in the 90s.
god I love hearing about the underside of the BBS internet in the early days. It's really not well documented at all, and I can only wonder what kind of artifacts you'd find there
As someone who experienced it. It's pretty fucking telling that half the shit in those roms in the video were CP. Like, it wasn't like it was somehow this criminal haven or anything, nothing like the dark web now, but it was more of a wild west in some ways than the internet has been.
Interesting. So this was done instead of dumping ZIP files containing more uncompressed images... why? To skirt over the FBI taking away peoples lolicon? Because I know ZIP files existed back then
probably a bit of that yeah, I'm sure in some areas police now would still completely dismiss lots of stuff as potential places to look for illegal shit if you told them it was video games, back then, oh hell hyeah. If they were thorough they'd search through everything still but you never know. Security through obscurity really works real magic when the other party is lazy or ignorant. I assume it was probably just mostly because they could put porn on it so they did, people are weird like that. I mean, people put porn on flip phones and other more modern consoles too so I'd have to say it's probably also just because people are weird and like porn.
