Descent review of the movie.
I thought it was great fun. Not really sure why everyone thinks it's bland
It's another origin story with a quippy hero, many of the new side-characters are underdeveloped. Plus it'll fall under the reasons Superman is boring to people, never in any real danger, can take out a major threat in the blink of an eye, etc.
It's fun but I can see why some people wouldn't like it as much.
I came in without expecting a black panther or an infinity war, despite the marketing and gender discussion, so I enjoyed it as a little okay movie with fun and simple action. Obviously it's no masterpiece but I am okay with what it is, as Endgame is right at our doorstep. Maybe it's just because I am less biased on criticism and what are the focal points on cinema, if I can pass and enjoy Aquaman whatever br0
Marvel movies are pretty fatigued at this point.
It doesn't help that Infinity war was the movie that teased this one, so people thought they could see htis for context on that, only to get another cookie cutter marvel film.
Because it is, aside from b plot and the fury/goose/talos love triangle.
Danvers never has to struggle to do anything, and she doesn't grow at all in any direction. It's a popcorn action movie marketed as so important for our times when nothing could be further from the point or truth, there's two seconds-long montages of where people told Carol "no" and that's supposed to be her entire motivation in stopping genocide and unchecked social engineering and galactic-level military expansion. It's a 2d movie with 2d character depth, she doesn't even learn to progress on the Penis Length Power Chart™, she just points her hand and shit explodes and later after taking off a disc from her neck she points at bigger shit and it also explodes, no effort expended. No stakes, no growth.
Luckily, it's a solid action piece with a gigantic fast and furious level budget.
Am I missing something or has every Marvel movie been bland? I tried watching a few but just end up losing interest or falling asleep immediately. I liked Iron Man 1 and 2, but that's it.
People have different tastes and that's okay, I personally love most of the Marvel films and its one of the few pieces of media I get excited for.
I had a great time watching Captain Marvel. Not much more I can say.
I completely forgot this was a thing until a buddy asked if he wanted to see it and while it wasn't mind blowing I still had fun with it. I don't regret watching it.
Nope! Last night I watched Black Panther... Fell asleep during the big CGI battle climax.
I've seen too many average popcorn films already, but I'm not about to tell anyone they shouldn't see this..
I think most Marvel movies are “great fun” and then I forget about them a month later. Only a few really stick with me, like Guardians or Thor Ragnarok or Infinity War.
Yeah most Marvel movies are just on that line of solid movie but nothing special. Infinity War was fucking fantastic though, as was Guardians and Thor ragnarok.
I found it decently enjoyable and basically everyone I've spoken to has had the same sentiment, "Its a Marvel movie." The plot was loose and not so great, side-characters weren't super developed, the last quarter screamed of saved-in-editing with its constant need to jumpcut and do weird stuff with its editing. It felt mostly like a Phase 1 Marvel movie, which was basically what everyone kept saying it looked like from the trailers, but with some Phase 2 in there as well. Samuel Jackson was phenomenal of course and the Skrull characters were surprisingly fun. Brie Larson did fine, but honestly she was just too stiff for half of it and she really had no expression most of the time, and not in a way that fit the plot (because there absolutely are reasons that make sense in the plot for her to behave that way). There were definitely parts you could tell were filmed later because she wasn't as stiff and seemed a little more alive in the character. I'm interested in seeing what more they do with her character going forward, and hope they continue to work on loosening her up, and give her a better script. She going to be the one carrying the franchise forward post-end game, so she needs competent people around her to make sure she's used right.
I thought Brie Larson was pretty meh, but the movie seemed a bit above average. It had a lot of charm, and the supporting characters were great.
