Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere but I still haven't found a solid answer in my searches.
I'm trying to get some better post processing effects for real-time recording that doesn't completely break lighting and other entities on the map such as the built-in DOF effect and came across this well known re-shader mod.
The problem is that it's an injected plugin to my knowledge and am unsure about how it conflicts with VAC, or if I'm even safe using this in singeplayer. Is there any history of people getting banned from this or if it's even allowed? This is incredibly frustrating because it has everything I need that isn't available on the steam workshop.
You shouldn't worry, it does not inject into the game engine as sam said, but rather directx driver.
I don't know exactly how it works, but it works pretty much the same way as, say steam overlay or discord overlay.
The only problem with reshade is that it causes flickering in the source games, and i don't know if that has been fixed
ReShade and/or ENB can easily trigger anti-cheat (EAC/VAC/something else) if said game has any.
The only game i've seen that triggers anti-cheat with reshade is PUGB, but that game's anti-cheat gets triggered by anything, i've once seen it triggered fom the xfire overlay
ReShade was not detected by default, they've added it to the list manually because it has been used to increase visibility of players etc and they thought that should be forbidden. Also, it just prevent you from starting the game, you did not get banned for trying to use ReShade.
Thanks for the responses! It took quite a bit of finagling but I got it working. Throwing -insecure and +sv_lan 1 in the launch options while in offline mode / single-player will hopefully help. If not I'll just bite the bullet from the possible consequences.
