how the fuck would showing that the president can't get away with committing various crimes while running and in office "not be worth it"
Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not
worth it.
Her full statement. The thing is Democrats win with Trump existing so they want him on the ballot.
Too bad that strategy didn't work for Hillary's campaign
Many 2016 voters saw Trump as the moderate choice somehow.
tbh, impeachment isn't worth the time simply because the GOP will back him no matter what. You'll never get the 60 votes to do so because it would be self-deprecating to the GOP
Best thing you can do is work to get him out of the office in the next election, and humble the GOP.
Apparently defending white supremacy and being a sexual predator are partisan issues.
Yes. Everything that happened with Bill Clinton would not have happened had he been Republican.
unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path,
So she's saying it will never be worth it to impeach any Republican president for basically any wrongdoing
For the amount of time the litigation would take his presidency would already be over. It's much easier to charge someone with crimes if they're not president. Assuming he doesn't get reelected its going to be much easier to charge him once he's left the oval office than it would be to try and rally up Republican support to begin articles of impeachment.
With Democrats in control of the house there isn't much danger of any large sweeping legislation to go through anymore, so it's best to play it safe and let the clock run out.
Presidents being part of the same party as Congress made impeachment never actually possible, the only time it could have happened they acquitted Johnson because his replacement would have been too left.
this man is singlehandedly ruining the country but he's not worth impeaching
do you need to be literally satan to get impeached
Basically yeah.
In a way yeah, basically it's impossible to impeach a president whose party has control of Congress, it sucks but that's how the political system in the US for impeachment works, you have to convince Congress to kick the president out but when you have a party like the GOP right now that not only controls Congress but will also get behind the president no matter what stupid shit he does because if he goes down then so do most of them, it's pretty much impossible to get him out.
Read the post.
Also, ye, she has a very good point.
More of pelosi saying "oh yeah they're bad, but I shouldn't do anything because I dont actually disagree with them they are so divisive"
That's not the argument though, the GOP will never vote to impeach him, therefor it is a waste of time.
As of matter of fact, I would saying doing so could be worse. Simply because he could be exonerated by congress for real criminal charges he will face when hes out of office.
I’m mixed. There’s plenty of things to impeach him on but the problem is the election is already next year and the impeachment process would be a lengthy battle that will ultimately turn out fruitless because the Republican senate will never vote to remove him. Strategically it’s probably better to just focus on the 2020 campaign. He’s getting indicted the day he leaves office anyway.
We don't need to impeach him. The whole 'impeach then indict' thing isn't codified in the constitution or the law books, it's simply DOJ policy...policy they can unilaterally set aside whenever they damn well please.
There is no law preventing Donald J Trump from being indicted on his crimes right now. And honestly, if Mueller's report shows legit, straight up, bona-fide treason, I honestly see no point in the DOJ not filing an indictment anyway.
It's sorta like trying old nazi war criminals, sometimes it's just best to move on and focus on ending their legacy.
We don’t need this moderate, centrist, defeatist attitude. We need change, for the better. The future is leaning away from hardcore conservatism, the time for letting the bad guys win to curry favor with their voters is over, because they’re shrinking day by day.
Impeach and arrest.
Just for the sake of argument, let's say it's not worth it (it is.) How about the American people then? Aren't we worth it? Don't we deserve respect and willingness to value our laws from the people we elect to represent us?
The precedent that's set by allowing blatant multi-faceted corruption, complete disdain for the rule of law and the purposeful stoking of hatred in the country that has gotten people ran over, shot, and almost mail bombed is a HUGE fucking erosion to everything we are supposed to stand for and value about our systems of law.
I want Trump forever branded as an impeached president. That's how his legacy deserves to be remembered.
The argument is: Does Congress believe Trump has committed high crimes and misdemeanors of office - or do they believe he hasn't? If this Presidency goes unchallenged while it remains in the White House, it sets the precedent for decades that 'whatever you do, so long as you're President, you'll be just fine to do so, so long as you can convince the Democrats that impeaching you would be inconvenient'.
That's some nice idealism, but any effort to impeach Trump is going to come away with him being aquited, therefor justified in everything he did which will be a propaganda victory, Fox News will never live it down.
If you want to impeach him so history shows he's bad that's nice I guess, but it could ruin the legitmacy of any charges that could happen after he leaves office. Best chance to get him is going to be after his term, when politics can't protect him.
Pelosi refusing to impeach Trump because it's inconvenient or 'impossible' is a propaganda victory which Fox News will never let be lived down.
Pelosi might want more Trumps running, racist moronic criminals to be the best opponents. Punishing Trump would dissuade more retards from running
What's wrong with the American leadership...
And if that's her aim then we are truly in an extremely dangerous position as she is playing recklessly and foolishly with the faith of the whole nation. She's trying to play 'the game' and think she's in a fantastic position and maybe she would be in 1994.
This isn't a friendly game of chess anymore. The Republican party knows if it loses this election it will be destroyed; they don't care how corrupted the entirety of America becomes so long as they're promised the ability to rule a part of it. The only thing keeping this boat together right now is people's faith that the bad actors will be punished and the corruption removed. If people lose that faith then what power will she have to reverse rigged elections, completely fraudulent ballots, and so forth as those allegations will be levied directly against her and the party she's trying to represent as Speaker.
TBH I'm sure people had the same thoughts when it came to nixon. I'm not sure stability is a good replacement for justice.
