Love that the journalists could face up to 5 years for reporting on the crime meanwhile he gets 6 years for doing it (though they most likely won't get any time)
That's it? Six fucking years for sexually abusing innocent children? Where's the justice in that? This man is a monster and six years doesn't make up for the trauma and harm he caused those poor boys.
The definition of privilege
There's not nearly enough backlash over the gag order and the fucker is basically going to get off scot-free. I mean... Due to Pell's age, Judge Kidd said he imposed a shorter non-parole period than usual "to increase the prospect of you living out the last part of your life in the community." I'm not a judge and it's probably a good thing I'm not because this seems absolute nonsense to me? This man is a monster. Prison isn't going to rehabilitate him. Prison isn't going to fix him. He's too old for that. My one personal victory with this story is that this man, after getting away with it for all these years, would see the last of his life in prison, surrounded by thoughts and regrets over what he's done. But nope. Six years, and 'hopefully' he gets to live out the last of his years in the community. That's bullshit. Again, it's a good thing I'm not a judge. I can only assume that this sort of vengeful, spiteful way of sentencing is something judges avoid. But reading through that article made me a bit upset. "As I directed the jury who convicted you in this trial, you are not to be made a scapegoat for any failings, or perceived failings of the Catholic Church." Good mindset but maybe we should start looking at the failings of the Catholic Church as well.
Yeah let's not put any of the Catholic Church's failings on one of the *checks notes* Catholic Church's senior cardinals ????????? who's left to put it on then? the pope?? Corruption always goes to the top and he was up there.
so this guy gets to rape and basically gets away with it cos hes a good catholic man? i was hoping to see this cunt locked up for life.
6 years for a he said she said case? Seems more than reasonable to me? I would 100% support him spending life if there was any solid evidence but from what I saw following this story was no hard evidence could be provided against him. If I'm wrong please do let me know, have been conflicted from this case lately.
Six years with half of that being parole. Look past the evidence and look at the charge itself, now - this man was found guilty of sex crimes. Not only is he getting off relatively light, that relatively light sentence is going to be severely lessened by the Judge being kind enough to all-but halve his sentence. I can't imagine anyone else being found of sex crimes and having their sentence cut in half, in order to ensure that they 'live out the last of their days in the community.' It's a blatant example of the privilege and power this man carries, the very same privilege and power that allowed him to abuse those boys in the first place.
Lmao fuck off 6 years on top of that short non parole period. It's such a short sentence combined with him being old af this is hardly rehabilitation. The judge is just doing this because he's old and doesn't want him to die in prison despite molesting two kids or he's biased towards the church and/or the relgion. You're not meant to sentence somehow based how how strong the evidence is. If they're found guilty then the judge is to assume that they are completely guilty no matter the evidence, there are even guidelines in place to try and prevent something like that.
Those kids lives are fucking scarred And he gets 6 years
I'm talking about how the guilty sentence came into place, was there actual evidence or was it just a he said sort of deal?
