I used to be a lurker on Reddit, I quite enjoyed until I noticed an overall decline 3 or so years ago. Many subreddits just felt polarizing. It was almost like you couldn't go to a subreddit where a mod wasn't liberal or conservative, and often you would get banned if you had an opposing belief, or didn't fit within the norm of the subreddit. Today was the final nail in the coffin as Reddit has completely failed with their approach to the Christchurch shooting. Many edgy subreddits were banned, or essentially dismantled. The Reddit Admins allow for therere to be videos of schools shootings in Brazil, much more violent things, but they have to ban the entire subreddit because of a video? Certainly it would've been better to just ban the posts, if they wanted to go that way. It's quite plain to see that this wasn't done out of respect for the victims, but was in fact a power move to make Reddit more "advertiser friendly". Very soon Reddit will ban porn and the likes to appease the advertisers. It's only a matter of time at this point.
Wow! We are the new Reddit
I'm not really looking for that sort of thing. I've already taken a look around and I think Facepunch will be my new Reddit.
This place might shut down at a moments notice, you jumped ship from the Costa Concordia onto the Titanic
I dunno what to tell you but this has been their policy for years, this really is nothing new.
Just keep an eye on Notpunch / Knockout. They've got a handful of mods & former mods, such as Hezzy, Flak, and Reagy already on-board and ready to jump ship the moment Garry decides to pull the plug. Universe willing, the transition will be quick and painless - and if we get word around enough, we might not even lose too many of our regulars. It'll be all the glory of Facepunch, without the paranoia!
Good thing there's Knockout
Is it free tho? I've heard it's gonna be pay to enter, is that right?
I doubt Reddit can be toppled any time soon. It's like Facebook for the younger audience.
Where did you hear that lmao
IDK, just read it in one thread or another
Shut up nerd
Can Ryker be permabanned? Literally three quarters of his posts have been shitposts.
Search
Hezzy is a nerd too, he should shut up next!!!
So many bait posts wtf
Nah, I actually posted in the wrong thread. Thought I was in Forum Discussion.
yes
it's a diamond each
i,m the accountant, you can just send it to me and your good 2 go
thanks sir pls let me in
you really don't want them anyway
Hezzy has been dead for years.
I'm a refugee but not from Reddit. I'm from downstairs, my flatulence is so bad rn I just gas myself out of one room and move on to the next, it's been going on for like an hour now it's getting ridiculous.
wait what
reddit won't die but i just don't like how the whole website has essentially become an advertisment. just look at the main subreddits
Silencing opposing belief or opinion isn't a mods and admins thing. It's been ingrained in the reddit user-base since the beginning, because the software is built around it. Mods used to add CSS to warn you only to downvote when the post was not constructive rather than if you simply disagree, but they stopped doing that because users did it anyway. If you post something well-researched and structured, yet controversial, your post will be shoved into a corner.
Consider if Facepunch added a feature to delete posts if enough people voted Disagree.
the FUCK how did i not see this i gotta find a new home now
you're painting reddit with too broad a brush, ignoring that it is the single most valuable resource in finding niche communities for many topics
for instance, you're not going to find an (active) discussion on 3D printing or the ASOIAF novels here; there are benefits to a structure based around large user volume
Well that blog post is like 5 months old now, with garry saying he'll decide what to do "early next year"
I figure early in the year means january, so if we're not early in the year anymore, maybe garry's moved on to this:
I’m leaning towards making the front-end site a SPA with a websocket
connection and accepting pull requests to it. We could COORS localhost
so people can develop locally but with the live data, and any legit
community alternatives could also be COORS’d.
Rate me optimistic if I'm right
lol are you here from r/watchpeopledie? the subreddit that got banned yesterday and has been in continual controversy for years? if so i question your morals and also gore/death/etc doesnt serve a place here so good luck satiating your morbidity
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
