Bogs are basically devoid of oxygen iirc so they'd preserve things fairly well
Someone please be the hero that tastes it, take one for the team.
I thought that bog butter was already a known thing?
don't feel bogged down, if incarnation exists, they'll have butter luck in the next life
First it was the forbidden sacrophagus juice, now it's the mysterious bog butter
Can't wait for Ramsay to launch a new recipe book

I have so many questions. Could it still be eaten? Is it solid as a rock or still got that buttery consistency inside? Who will step up to taste this stuff, this is important history!
nice
It definitely was. Maybe this is an older instance than most?
That's a really nice container they have stored it in.
Found the toast they will eat it with

People have already eaten bog butter. Apparently it tastes terrible.
It builds character.
the question is: does it taste terrible because it is so old or does it taste terrible because it tasted terrible way back then?
Yep. Things under the surface of a bog take forever to rot, if they do at all.

At least your great grandkids can eat it 3500 years later
That an A+ grade picture for an SCP article.
You're missing quite a few "great" on that great grandkid.
thats metal
Is that a dead sheep?
Before: There was only bog iron
Now: BOG BUTTER
Yes. The part above the still waterline had access to oxygen and rotted out. The part below the waterline did not and was nearly perfectly preserved.
You know what's even scarier? We have some massive and deep bogs here in North America, typically in and near Western Canada methinks. The surface tends to be indistinguishable from normal terrain, trees will even take root in them.

As you can imagine, things often wander in and don't wander out.
Honestly bogs are what quicksand is falsely said to be, don't fuck with em.
