Cops said they responded to the scene on the night of March 7. The defendant called 911 to report that she accidentally shot her boyfriend, authorities said. Medics reported to the scene and tried to save the victim identified as David Dalton. It was to no avail. They declared him dead. Peterson allegedly admitted in a post-Miranda interview that she and her boyfriend were drinking and watching a movie. According to cops, she claimed that he suggested they play out a scene which involved a gun. They got the firearm–a Taurus .38 caliber revolver–but the weapon discharged as she was holding it, she allegedly said. Medical examiners confirmed that Dalton sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. Peterson allegedly told officers that she tried to stop the bleeding. A detective said the defendant’s breath smelled of alcohol and that Peterson admitted drinking whisky. The defendant also said she was taking medications, authorities claim. Police said they found medications prescribed in her name at the scene. Cops didn’t specify which medications these were, but did say they could result in impairment if taken with alcohol.
Sounds a lot like she was taking benzodiazepines. Combined with alcohol, they can make people do really crazy shit.
breaking news, guns aren't fucking toys
To be fair though, it's not really necessary. People do equally crazy shit on just alcohol depressingly often.
Pretty much every drug says not to mix them with alcohol so this doesn't really say anything about what medications she was taking.
Any medication taken with alcohol is impairing though, it's what alcohol does
If you’re predisposed to play with guns for fucks sake put them in a safe and buy a Nerf blaster for playtime
Most drugs say not to mix with alcohol due to physical health concerns rather than psychological, but the article specifically mentions impairment, implying how the drug would increase cognitive impairment. I mean, having one shot of whiskey and one diazepam fucks me up way more than two shots of whiskey or two diazepam. This effect is called potentiation.
That's true however my anti depressant Vortioxetine says mixing it with alcohol will increase impairment however the reality is they don't interact or potentiate each other whatsoever (in my anecdotal experience). So it's hard to say what she was taking.
guns are not toys, they're engineered weapons designed for the sole purpose of killing
This is a huge assumption, even the most mundane medicines don't suggest moving with alcohol
Already explained the reason for the assumption earlier. Most drugs suggest not to mix, but most drugs will not increase a alcohol's cognitive impairment.
ehh it doesn't cause the disassociate effect so much though, that disconnect usually comes from benzos. Having chilled around a lot of xannies and alcohol I can tell you first hand that it entirely gimps your consequence center in your brain and you'll seriously consider any idea safe enough. I saw a buddy break his back from jumping off a 3rd floor balcony off of benzies and I was just dumbfounded that anyone could possibly consider that a sane idea
Currently have a nasty shoulder injury + egg shaped lump on my head from benzos, so sadly I'm well aware
