Hi all. I am currently waiting for my broadband to be moved, as I've just moved into a new flat. It's going to take about 4 days to get the Internet again and I have been using my mobile data. I only have about 10GB to last me a few days, so I was wondering if people could suggest some smaller games, preferably on Steam, that I could play to keep me entertained? I've been playing a lot of RimWorld the last few days and I've had a lot of fun with it, but am keen for any other suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Terraria would fit that. Unless you also mean small in terms of playtime.
Terraria's a good shout and is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for, but I have played it a great deal over the years so am looking for something new. Playtime isn't really an issue. RimWorld is just procedural and could effectively last forever, so I don't have any preferences in that sense.
Into The Breach, Slay The Spire, and Axiom Verge are all really good, and they aren't too big file size-wise
Crypt of the Necrodancer (also available on ios), invisible inc, super hexagon, shovel knight, super meat boy
Hexcells on Steam Puzzle
The Swapper on Steam Puzzle
The Room on Steam Puzzle
Glass Masquerade on Steam Puzzle
Spelunky on Steam Roguelite
One Finger Death Punch on Steam Beat em up
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on Steam Metroidvania
Broforce on Steam Shmup
Infested Planet and Strain Tactics are my recommendations
Dungeons of Dredmor is like 500MB and costs almost nothing, but being a (very accessible!) roguelike it has almost infinite replayability
the DLC is super worth it too, especially as the complete package
FTL Faster Than Light is always my go-to time waster these days.
You can try Dead Cells, FTL, SYNTHETIK, Darkest Dungeon if you haven't already. Also, if you are into scroll shooters, Tyrian, It isn't on steam, not really big on size either, ~5MB, i liked it especially for its soundtrack, it is composed by the same guy who did music for Deus Ex.
Superflight on Steam
DEADBOLT on Steam
A game I really enjoy that's only 130MB according to the store page.
Both Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead and Dwarf Fortress are relatively small games that provide near infinite replayability but they require some time to master. If you enjoyed Rimworld I imagine you would like Dwarf Fortress, which is a much more hardcore and complex great uncle, but it does require some effort to get past the UI. I always keep both DF and C:DDA installed on all my devices for this kind of cases where I have time to kill without access to internet. (Also Caves of QUD on steam is a great option).
The Dominions series/Conquest of Elysium is also a series of great 4X-ish games that are greatly amusing to get invested in, since there is countless of different strategies and things to explore.
If you like RPGs, Fallout 1 / Fallout 2 are relatively small in size but should be long enough to keep you occupied for a few days as well.
factorio
Iconoclasts - platform adventure, good fun story!
Heat Signature - top-down shooter inside spaceships you fly to, procedural, "Hotline Miami in space"
A short little underrated gem I really liked was Dark Echo. It's an intriguing little suspense/puzzle game where the only visuals onscreen are representations of sound, and you have to navigate levels basically blind. It's a really cool idea - really short, though, like a few hours only.
OpenTTD | Home Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe, build your transportation empire! Make a bunch of bus routes between cities! Create a railway network then accidentally crash two trains into each other, killing 43 passengers in the process! Make an airport that flies 3 people 10 miles between two hamlets! Completely free.
http://lcs.wikidot.com/ Liberal Crime Squad, made by Bay12 Games, the creators of Dwarf Fortress. Command a team of liberal heroes, fighting the good fight against the conservative menace. Raid a propagandizing TV station to try and bring the message to the people! Kidnap a lawyer and brainwash convert them to the liberal cause so they can defend your guys in court pro-bono! Get your legs blown off by rednecks when running away from a sweatshop you just attacked in an attempt to liberate the workers within! Also free.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/32630/Delta_Force_2/ Delta Force 2, kind of like ARMA but made in the 90s and smaller scale. Assault terrorist compounds to free captured airmen! Snipe baddies in a pixel hunt from hundreds of meters away! Run directly into an enemy encampment snapshotting people from 20 meters away with a .50 caliber sniper rifle! $4.99 on Steam, but well worth the price IMO.
these should all give you hours of entertainment
Heat Signature is such a good game, I have spent hours playing it.
I've been playing this a lot at work, weirdly good.
I'll throw in Teleglitch and Convoy and second Tyrian 2k, Heat Signature and Hotline Miamis
Gunpoint - sidescroller / platformer about a noire future detective. Focuses on stealth and hacking. First game by the guy who made Heat Signature.
Have you considered mods? The Calamity mod for Terraria adds a rather ridiculous amount of new bosses, enemies, equipment, biomes, and decoratives. Even adds two new difficulties and several optional modifiers too.
mount and blade will last you the full 96 hours plus about another 900
Install a lot of doom mods.
Emulators could also be really good too. Like, every single SNES game just adds up to 2 gb or so, and there's games in there that often take people weeks to complete.
They are Billions and Factorio if you want to experience time dilation.
Monolith is a game I can't recommend enough. If you're into roguelikes like Isaac or Gungeon at all, you'll be into this! it's a top-down roguelike bullet hell shoot 'em up and its fantastic. it has some really great attention to detail, tight & responsive controls, and a lovely soundtrack too. i never see it talked about at all when people bring up recent roguelike games and its a shame, since its absolutely worth playing! its pretty cheap as well, i think $10 or so
Factorio
Aka "holy shit, is that daylight?"
The factory grows.
Airships: Conquer the Skies
Great gem that allows you to build some ridiculous shit without being too complicated.
Candy Crash and Clash of Clans are my favorite. Easy to play but quite entertaining
I often play them at work to kill long working hours
