Is it possible to somehow select a large object consisting of many small ones? I mean not to select it by 1 detail and add it to the group, but immediately merge it by selecting the area ??
In 2D views you can just select an area and press an Enter.
But you should use groups.
do as wrote rubat or using ctrl + lmb select the necessary objects and group them together
