He's been in power for 30 years
*Dictator.
Borat for president
Both the only reason I know this country exists and also the reason that the first few years I knew about it I thought it was a fabricated country for the Borat character with a convincingly real sounding name.
the only reason I remember this country is its the setting for C&C Generals which involved a massive US intervention there to fight terrorism after the country collapsed for some reason.
Not really. History in american schools is very general world history, then american history by the wars we've fought.
My favourite teach in high school was from Kazakhstan and I have always wanted to visit it . Hopefuly these shakey recent events lead to everything becoming more democratic and better for visiting.

What kind of historical education did you get? Sounds terrible, and wasn't my experience at all.
That was because its president resigned in 2019... ayyyy wait a minute
I hardly know anything about Kazakhstan except for their bangin flag.
It's important to remember that the US is a very large country and that educational standards vary wildly across different regions. Other than some bits on WWI and WWII, for example, my history lessons focused primarily on American history. It's not particularly uncommon for an American to not be familiar with most countries.
Canadian high schools are too busy boring kids with the fucking fur trade of the 1600s - 1800s to teach them anything about what rest of the world was doing.
Seriously though after the colonization of North America just about nothing is taught about the rest of the world unless Canada was involved directly. I think Napoleon was like a footnote. I dont recall any education whatsoever about asia unless it was about asian immigrants or the cold war.
I've learned more about world history from youtube videos, wikipedia browsing, and news articles than I ever did in high school.
I learnt nothing about kazakhstan in school.
We only learnt about Australian aborigines, Australian history and some ancient history.
Borat is great education
