the other browsers are crap though Why would I use opera when it's not optimised for the system.
Yess, Ive been looking for a way to use duckduckgo for quite a while, ever since google started pushing that google assistant crap.
You could use a Chromium version such as Brave.
awesome I can download that after the fact just like I download chrome on my PC despite having edge preinstalled if something as basic as a web browser or a search engine being bundled into the OS is considered "anticompetitive" then I'd like to see the same options available for every other preinstalled application on my device honest question - will Apple be treated the same way? after all, safari is preinstalled on the device, and I'm fairly certain they finally switched back to Google from Bing as their default search engine. what gives?
I haven't 100% checked but based on previous knowledge, IIRC it comes down to what EU law calls a 'dominant market position' Microsoft has a dominant market position in desktop OSes and at one time they arguably used that to establish a dominant market position in desktop web browsers too with IE. So the EU made them offer a browser choice screen for a few years - IIRC they had a chance to renew the requirement, but no one uses IE/Edge anymore so it's no longer needed Google has a dominant market position in mobile OSes and has arguably used that to establish dominance over mobile browsers and search, so they're using the same remedy again. I don't know if Apple technically has a dominant market position in mobile OS, but either way, Safari is outnumbered by Chrome so they haven't used their position to set up dominance in another field, which is what would get the EU going after them. The EU is however reportedly considering a probe into the Apple app store for potential antitrust violations, after Spotify alleged they have been using their total control over the iOS ecosystem to push users towards Apple Music - therefore using their dominant position in one market to push dominance in another one, a big no-no.
My issue with FF android is no built-in gestures for tab management. Extensions for it all suck
Probably honestly if my android asked me on first boot setup whether to use firefox or chrome, i wouldve picked firefox. I just couldnt be arsed afterwards because chrome was 'good enough'
