Anyone noticed how map objects don't load unless you get closer? I noticed this, when trying to kill someone stood in the open. I was sniping shot after shot. My bullets just did nothing. Then I started to get closer & pop, a map structure, a cargo container thing was in between me & him & only showed up when I got closer. I also see people with x8 scope walking on thin air. Only until I get closer, do the base structures load up. This just looks stupid & feels cheap. If you have to move within x distance for map items to load, Whats the point of x8 scopes if you can't use them correctly?
I reported this a few weeks ago... A forum poster complained there was "hit sounds" but no hit in the log. He said he had see it was impossible to hit anything beyond 175m. so I ran a shed load of "scientific" tests (the word scientific is used loosely here) and the answer was it "depends" ,but the hit logs are clearly posted. I was able to hit bears using 8x scopes at >500m When you think about it...... the use of scopes & binoculars presents complex situations....(it's not like real life) you would have to pop open a new graphic buffer and re-render EVERY object from the view position to the target as a separate "game view", that's gonna hurt......FPS
Yeah, I understand what your saying. But I never got this problem before they changed how chunks are rendered. True, the updated way did increase my fps around 5-10 fps but it makes sniping at great distances troublesome. To be honest, I can live with the possibility of a un rendered map structures being between my bullet & the target that I cannot see. But you can't scope x8 to look for bases, without having to get close to see them. I just don't get, how a player who's half in/out of a base hatch, will show half the player at distance. So the game is hiding parts of the player you cannot see due to the base structure, but it won't do the same thing if a player is hiding behind a cargo container or crouched down behind a truck you cant see. I'm sure they'll figure it out. It just looks untidy!
I can't remember exactly where I read it, but it was somewhere fairly official, saying that the distance rendering had been deliberately made more aggressive to improve overall game performance.
I have seen cases of where NPC objects disappear when i kill them over 400m, but walking to the spot the body is there, unfortunately (as far as computer simulation is concerrened) real life is infinitely parallel processed, something modern CPU's cannot touch yet. Technically speaking modern snipers can hit 2KM......but that's going to ruin rust if your wandering down a lonely road and some nut sack put a bullet in your head from two Map squares away.... It's funny to watch , but not fun for nakeds just joining the game. I was more concerned about the close range stuff of scientists coming up under stair walls or round stair-walls with railings not taking a bullet thru them & the NPC being un-killable...
