Hi there,
I'm looking for a reliable VPS to host all of my servers on, any suggestions?
Well it might depend, what kind of stuff are you wanting to host?
Based on personal experience I can recommend DigitalOcean. They offer different types of VPS servers such as ones with a faster CPU if that is required. Do note that they're not that cheap, there are cheaper alternatives out there. However with that in mind the support that I get from DigitalOcean is superb, and network downtime is extremely rare so they handle their maintenance work superbly.
DigitalOcean is probably the most user friendly.
AWS for integrations with other stuff.
I shill for vultr like always
but, really, both companies are pretty similar give or take a few small things and promotions.
Although, "all of my servers" complicates things. If you're looking for hosting a bunch of game servers, imo, you'd be better off with shared hosting unless you can afford a dedi. But that's also assuming that like, the servers will have big pops n stuff.
If you're looking for super cheap VPS options with "decent" (but not perfect) reliability, Hetzner Cloud is pretty decent:
https://www.hetzner.com/cloud
~3 bucks for a 1 core VPS, which is fine for personal projects.
If you're going to host game servers, I'd get their "dedicated vCore" units, which are quite a bit pricier, starting at roughly 20 euro a month for 2 cores with 8GB of RAM.
They also have some pretty beefy dedicated servers for decent prices.
They are decent, with good up-time and performance. We use them at work for our clients that need "OK" uptime and service.
They do have the occasional hickup, but I've been running 4 ARK servers, 4 Atlas shards, A Minecraft fTB server, A Space Engineers server, all at the same time on one of their dedicated servers.
I've had no complaints, but I've noticed they have a 5 minute "hickup" once or twice a week, according to my monitoring tools.
Between work and personal projects, I've got about 20 servers with them, no real complains other than a bout of unexpected outages last year due to some issues with one of their network subcontractors.
If you want 99.99*% uptime though (anything commercial/enterprise grade), I can recommend Google Cloud Compute.
They are more expensive, but they also have some interesting performance options.
(I run two 32 core 128GB virtual server with them for work)
Plus they give you like 300 USD credit to spend over the course of a year (after which it expires).
Google Cloud Compute is also much easier to sign up for (if you have a Google Account), as Hetzner required me to send in proof of ID before I could open an account.
If you don't mind booting up your servers whenever you need them, you can save 75% off the price with GCP by using their Preemptive servers, though you should look into what that means before you commit.
I've had some seriously bad experiences with Microsoft Azure and AWS; it's difficult to see how much you are paying, and for what services with them. They are more suited for "whatever, send us the bill"-style enterprise organisations.
DigitalOcean
Linode
Vultr
cheap and reliable hosting I have used. However, you need to do some configuration manually.
Using Vultr right now, really can't complain. They're pretty good!
