Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel was criticized for tweeting on Saturday a claim that MSNBC was biased in not providing coverage of ISIS's defeat in
Syria.
McDaniel tweeted, "Media bias alert: On Friday, when the Mueller report was completed, ISIS’ last stronghold in Syria was also eliminated. Since then, MSNBC has not covered ISIS’s
defeat for a single minute, refusing to acknowledge this huge win for @realDonaldTrump and the world."
Fox News foreign correspondent based in Jerusalem, Trey Yingst, quickly responded, offering a possible explanation for the alleged limited coverage. Yingst wrote, "An IED exploded
next to the NBC crew in Syria today, killing their local driver. So yes, they may have filed less reports today than on Friday."
A driver working with NBC News reporters in Syria was killed Saturday by an explosive device in eastern Syria, where several media outlets are covering the liberation of the last sliver
of territory held by the Islamic State group. Noah Oppenheim, the president of NBC News, said in a statement that NBC employees escaped unharmed, and expressed “deepest
sympathies” to the driver’s family and loved ones.
You don't need a couple of reporters on active duty to keep the Syrian news cycle going. Bullshit from both sides I wager, but hope the crew pulled through ok.
They got really lucky that the IED only killed 1 person. Usually either it kills everyone in the vehicle or nobody.
I would assume column lead detonated the device and they were second in the convoy. Highly doubt they travel in just one vehicle given the circumstances.
Yeah you actually kind of do. What else do you report on? "President still claiming that ISIS is defeated today"? Sorry but as the largest news network in the US, forgive us if we're actually trying to report on actual news as it develops instead of rehashing the same shit to piss people off like the other top "news" network that repeats the same propaganda points until you're sick of hearing them.
They could have literally reported on their news crew being hit by a bomb in the same time frame Trump claims victory?
I'm not pinning blame or know anything for sure but NBC could have reported on Syria if they wanted to and push the narrative, they didn't, and this is their excuse when pushed for an answer, in my opinion.
You don't capitalise on the fact your own crew was hit by an IED for media clicks. Holy shit dude.
Eh? Capitalizing on media clicks?
Are we in the same conversation?
I mean, if it killed their driver, it's possible that other members of the crew were either injured or psychologically traumatised. It's probably not an easy situation for you or I to imagine being in, so I don't really think we can have a realistic perspective on how it affected both them and, consequently, their news coverage.
Yeh of course, and so my sympathy for these particular reporters, but are we to assume that because these reporters got hit, NBC's coverage of the "fall of ISIS" grew to an unstoppable halt and they had to refrain from mentioning it until these particular reporters got back on their feet?
I mean considering there's no rationale behind saying anything about the fall of isis, yes? Just because land is taken does not mean these groups are done for. Al Queda was arguably more of a threat once we cleared their lands, because once you've done that their whole leadership structure goes into hiding and it becomes a significantly more complicated fight than it was
Obviously, we're all operating from a certain amount of ignorance here, so a lot of it is guess-work, but they probably only had that one team there and perhaps didn't want to just regurgitate what other news companies were saying. It's possible they like to add a fresh perspective when reporting on stories rather than printing somebody else's perspective without being able to effectively validate details.
