I would be.
Any outright lie will be uncovered quickly - all Congress has to do is call on Mueller to testify, and ask him "is the summary given to us by the AG correct?". Or just subpoena the report, like they've already said they will if it isn't given to them. (I expect they will do that anyways, to get the unredacted report - unlike most people, I do think the public version should be lightly redacted, to protect intelligence sources and other assets, but Congress does deserve to have the full report and can release any improperly-redacted material).
And so it would be very irrational for Barr to lie. He benefits little - even if his lies help keep Trump in power, Trump is notoriously bad at rewarding loyalty. And such a blatant lie being uncovered would basically destroy Barr's career - he would likely be forced to resign, if not impeached.
My baseline estimate at this point is that Barr is spinning like a top, but is stopping short of actual lies. He's not telling the whole truth, I have no doubt about that, but he's not telling absolute lies either. We must wait and see what the actual report says.
If Barr lied and it was found out and he lost his job and career and even faced legal problems for perjury, it would still be like the third worst thing he's done
The idea that we should release the full unredacted report is actually terrifying.
Imagine you're an informant who's given crucial information to America in what you view as its time of need. You've risked everything -- yourself and your family's safety -- to provide critical intelligence that the Russian government would not appreciate being shared.
...and then your identity is revealed to the world and you and your family disappeared.
If there's a single redaction in the public report people will not accept it as legitimate. That's why way it is now
As much of a monstrous cunt as Trump is, I'd rather not endanger sources. Keep in mind that we've been frequently critical of Trump endangering sources in his own right in the past, so I'd rather we not stoop to those same lows.
People had too high expectations of the report, and none of the family were even questioned. It's looking like Mueller rigidly followed the restrictions of his office and the full DOJ may not have let him go after the
family.
On that, I'll definitely agree. I'm really hoping that Mueller just didn't simply pull a Comey, acting by the books and naively assuming that the GOP Congress would prioritize their country and rule of law over their own party.
I think everyone pulled a Comey on Mueller
Sick AOC on his ass, she knows the right questions.
