Uh-oh, this doesn't sound good at all.
We Cuba now. Can we not have a reboot of the worst parts of the late 19th/early-mid 20th centuries?
I didn't know Venezuela had a threatened Russian minority.
but US imperialism guys
Oh hey, would you look at that. The worse international meddler has been given a free pass. Great.

Great, because Venezuela didn't have enough international meddling. Can we just pack the Cold War up and call it a night? Let the Venezuelan people eat the rich at their own pace and dictate their own future? Do we really gotta play this 4d chess bullshit for oil?
This is only tangentially about Oil. Russia and China are both vying to dismantle American Dominance across the globe, its why they've been far more active in poking, prodding and then blocking attempts to fix things. The Syrian Civil War was essentially elongated because Russia absolutely refused to not back Assad and both Russia and China blocked any UN based declaration against Assad. The US screwed the pooch in the Middle East but they allowed the festering ground of no-man's land to produce DAESH. Russia has been aiming to dismantle and destabilize both Europe and the United States for the past 5 years. China is essentially throwing money at countries that the United States formerly threw at them and is using that to leverage control and acquisitions. This isn't a surprised, Russia wants to regain its regional hegemony and China wants to create one of its own. Its only a matter of time before they start clashing even if you have articles talking about how they wanna get buddy buddy. They have a common enemy in the Untied States. Once the US cracks; they'll only have each other. Europe meanwhile just doesn't have the power projection to enforce its soft power so at most its a playground for Russian bullshit.
I mostly used oil as a placeholder for what this post explains. This is all still a shit show and I want it to end.
Perhaps they're just tourists to see clocktowers
We should have killed Putin years ago.
This is more then likely going to be Maduro's fuckbois moving all of the countries gold and silver outta country. Yay for non-intervention leading to a complete collapse of the Venezuelan economy for the next several decades.
how would that have not panned out very very poorly for everyone though?
Exactly, who will trump get his orders from then?
Even so, this will not play out for his native followers if he could be assassinated, especially in his heights in the 2000s.
This will only lead to full scale war.
Why do you think they were flown in?
Looks to be where we are headed now. With leadership that isn't openly hostile to the US, we could get along fine with Russia. We could both benefit immensely from mutual trade and cultural exchange. Putin and his cronies are the enemy. He is the problem that needs to be removed. As it stands, he is only solidifying his power.
The oligarchs would have just replaced him with someone else, possibly even martyred Putin.
oh right cause its our responsibility to just kill off other world leaders got it thanks
Ehhhhhhhhh I dunno if it's a good idea to orchestrate an assassination of the president of a nuclear armed state
The alternative is inaction. Which, so far, has screwed us pretty solidly and placed two tyrannical governments way ahead of the power curve. I feel like we run into a problem where we are condemned to inaction because are perpetually terrified that everyone else will push the nuke button at the drop of a hat. Russia is currently running a hostile propaganda campaign in the world's most well armed nation in an effort to manipulate the population into losing confidence in the free press and forcing an implosion. They are actively attacking us right now.
Any evidence? Not saying you're wrong, but surely you wouldn't fall victim to confirmation bias, or even just assume that you're right about the deeper hidden meanings behind international developments. You seem like a reasonable person to me. Also, how would non-intervention lead to a complete collapse of their economy? I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or something, but a lot of Venezuala's terrible situation is due to foreign intervention. I did think I remembered you being a non-interventionist libertarian type, right? For example, the most direct cause of their economic disaster is the collapse of oil prices. That was mainly the Saudis, operating through the capitalist world oil market, flooding the market with a glut to lower prices to hurt profitability of other country's oil industries. This hurt the US, but obviously hurt Venezuala (those who criticize capitalism rarely find friends within it, strangely) a lot worse. Sanctions are also undoubtedly contributing to the economic crisis. This is on top of corporate sabotage (look it up), as well as the stirring of chaos by foreigners. This is all on top of having an undemocratic government which is turning its back more and more on the legacy of Hugo Chavez. Why do we need to make it worse? Meddling with other nations tends to embolden them to crack down on dissent even more, as the foreign threat is a useful justification. Look at the Reign of Terror in France. Look at the Russian Revolution (did you know the Allies invaded Russia to try to stop the Bolsheviks?). The pattern of foreign meddling leading to drastic measures for "national security" is almost impossible to miss. Hopefully you agree with me, I'm not exactly sure your position.
How do you bridge this position with the very literal military intervention Russia is undertaking right now in the country?
I condemn Russian military intervention in Venzuala. As I said: "a lot of Venezuala's terrible situation is due to foreign intervention... For example, the most direct cause of their economic disaster is the collapse of oil prices. That was mainly the Saudis, operating through the capitalist world oil market, flooding the market with a glut to lower prices to hurt profitability of other country's oil industries... This is all on top of having an undemocratic government which is turning its back more and more on the legacy of Hugo Chavez. Why do we need to make it worse?" Venezuala could do with being left alone, and maybe being sent a bit of humanitarian aid. If you're not there to help, don't go.
it is actually related to oil though because Venezuela controlled by russia could have a serious impact on the oil markets and further reduce their need to abide by OPEC quotas. also a military base in south america right next to the british, US, and French would be great for Putin.
Ok Google. Bring back the Cold War.
About 100 troops and 35 tonnes of material. Oh great. Maduro now has more weapons and troops to continue his shitty tyrannical goverment thanks to Russia. Incredible how Russia gets a free pass to almost anything they do. I'm worried that this might turn into an even harder crackdown to Venezuela's Opposition Party or innocent civilians in order to protect what resources and cash Maduro and his fuckers still hold in power. What a shit show.
Sometimes i wonder if you people do this for the memes or if you really are this retarded
