Time to play some good ol' morrowind
I'm still really looking forward to some of those mods in the works for Skyrim that aim to recreate past TES experiences, but I'm not sure if the Morrowind project is even still going. I think I'd really struggle with playing Morrowind again these days due to how dated the combat mechanics are.
The combats the same as ESO in terms of quality except unlike in ESO you have spellcrafting and super cool enchanting/alchemy.
There are a fair few mods that can make the combat less dice rilly and more wysiwyg.
I've not played ESO much at all, but the whole 'you missed' x50 thing is quite demoralising.
Ew bethesda launcher
Isn't that mostly dependent on how you built your character?
It has been about 15 years since I played Morrowind, so it's hard to remember how I built my character, but I do remember missing becoming a lot rarer as I levelled up.
not on steam
and there goes my motivation for redeeming it
You get the Bethesda launcher installed, you download and install the game, you start it up.
Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there.
Things that affect your hit chance in Morrowind
Your agility
Your current fatigue compared to your maximum(The lower the ratio, the worse your hit chance)
Your weapon skill for whatever weapon you're using
The enemy's agility
Whether the enemy has a shield and their skill with it.
The enemy's fatigue
Luck(The stat) of both parties.
Actual luck.
Certain spells(Blind/Sanctuary in particular)
Fatigue in particular is very important. Don't run straight into combat with low fatigue, wait for it to regen first, or drink a restore fatigue potion.
The Bethesda launcher sucks, but if I do get Morrowind on it can I still mod the game? Do I need to be constantly logged online to play a single player game?
after spending 20 minutes resetting passwords just trying to log in...

whatever, didn't feel like downloading the bethesda launcher anyways.
It's totally busted for me as well. The website is saying my username/password is wrong (it's not), the launcher actually lets me log in but can't load any pages.
same, just did a reset on my password. password worked a few days ago too.
Morrowind is very heavy on character building. You gotta make sure you know what attributes affect what skills, then make sure you don't use skills you suck at. :v
If you're gonna be beating things to death, go with strength and agility. If you're gonna be sneaky, go with agility and speed. If you'd rather burn your enemies to death in glorious magical hellfire, intelligence and willpower are the way to go.
I'd still rather not my aim skills be hampered by RNG just because of a certain build.
It's sad that the mechanics have aged quite badly, especially when you've come from the modern elder scrolls games.
It's such a great game, glitches, exploits and all.

Jesus Christ they can't even keep the bugs out of their website
don't think of it as an action RPG, but more like a tabletop RPG.
I've heard that argument, and I still don't like it. Tabletop RPGs still don't have you aiming your swings at the enemy or rely on any form of reaction. If it was more like a JRPG with turn based combat, then okay, but it's not. "Accuracy" shouldn't be in play when I already did the aiming myself.
it's more to emulate not really knowing how to handle the weapon.
Even the most incompetent human could stab a stationary target without missing. Not beinggood at combat doesn't mean you become incapable of using basic motor functions.
They're not "Stationary" though. It's just Morrowind wasn't made on the budget to be animating dodges.
The actual mechanics don't differentiate between missing and opponents dodging since "Evasion" is just a static penalty to the attack's Hit-chance.
Exact same issue for me. Reset my password 5 times and keep being told it's wrong, but it works in the launcher?
Finally get to the redeem code page (via the launcher) and whenever I try and redeem the code - I notice the launcher loses connection (the little "Online" bit top left turns into "Check connection" for a few seconds) before I'm told the code doesn't work.
Classic Bethesda programming I guess.
No I mean the way the dice roll system works means at low levels if you and an enemy are stationary, standing right in front of each other it's possible to miss repeatedly. Which is ridiculous from a first person perspective.
Jokes on them i already have it on Steam >:)
Oblivion and Skyrim feel empty in comparison to how I feel when I play Morrowind, which is why I'm still putting in several hours every week.
I wouldn't call needing over 50 hits to kill an enemy an improvement over missing a few times, if I'm being honest.
What? Where did I suggest replacing missing with damage sponge enemies?
