Cool another gross oversimplification that takes away functionality for aesthetics! Thanks apple.
tbh you don't need number/CVV on a credit card much at retail stores because they all use the chip reader now.
If you do need that, you're probably buying something online, which is why you get a number and CVV on your phone.
having numbers on a cc seems like something done out of tradition, this is a step in the right direction.
how do i buy things online
And yet, it makes more sense than Stadia
Point, Apple.
There’s no card number, no CVV code, no expiration date and no signature
on the card. You have to use the Wallet app to get that information.
Physical transactions are eligible to 1 percent in daily cash.
https://techcrunch.com/2019/03/25/apple-introduces-its-own-credit-card-the-apple-card/
in addition:
Apple doesn’t know what you bought, where you bought it and how much you
paid for it. And Goldman Sachs promises that it won’t sell your data
for advertising or marketing.
apple is one of the few companies i would trust with these things and it's a pretty innocuous idea.
Oh my god, the company responsible for the 2008 financial crisis promises?
Well then ok, it must be true.
this isn't so bad. A lot of details on ccards can feel kind of redundant today, as long it is still somewhat convenient and secure to shop online with it.
Put your card on your phone and then put your phone back on your card again through your card on your phone.
It can do things other credit cards can't do. You can sign up on your
iPhone, and within minutes start using it right away - anywhere
worldwide.
It'll be available across your devices, and will be
found in your Wallet App, with clear spending tracking - with store
names clearly listed - and details on when your next payment is due and
how much you've spent this month.
This is literally every credit card
Haha yes i cant wait to use my 🍎card on my android phone
Oh wait
Welcome to the Apple ecosystem, you're here forever.
Now I can use my phone for transactions unless they don't accept Apple Card or my battery's dead, in which case I merely need to take out my Apple Card Card, which has no numbers to manually enter in case of a chip read error!
Now my single, convenient credit card I can use all the time is two things I can use some of the time! Thanks Apple!
There will be a $25 accessory that adds numbers to the front of your Apple Card Card.
They're reinventing banking
tbh I think we should just remove banking entirely so maybe they'll fix it
they're a mega corporation, distrusting them should be your default stance
Nah, its called physical separation.
Its much harder for some would be identity thief to steal your credit card credentials in person because they have to either physically steal it or skim it off you (if you're still one of the people using RF tap pay).
Its much easier for some criminal to steal your credentials if said credentials are stored on the cloud and can be stolen by a MiTM attack whenever you get that information for payment.
Plus its easier if you know your shit is stole when your physical card is gone, compared to not knowing (or knowing too late) if someone else skimmed your credentials.
Given how chuckle fucks like Goldman Sachs and other financial institutions handle security. I wouldn't trust them to do OTA credit cards.
wow cool now I can enact this scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cISYzA36-ZY
I was just looking at my Monzo card and thought exactly the same. The app does all of this but Apple still push it as "innovative" which is no surprise with the amount of shit they've done over the years in the name of "innovation".
"There's no card number, CVV or signature on the card, which Apple says makes it more secure. If you need that information, you'll find it in the Wallet app."
cant wait for uninformed people to start thinking something is up, last time i used NFC at a small store the owners mind was blown bc he didnt even know his credit card processer supported that
I mean I don't get exactly what's dumb about this tbh, and I'm generally not a big fan of Apple. We don't really do credit cards here in Denmark, though, so I'm not exactly an expert, but if someone can do a good explanation, I'm all ears.
Getting one means you won't be able to spend funds unless you have an Apple device.
It's just more shit to lock people into their ecosystem. It doesn't even do anything for you.
Actually, the rewards it comes with are very enticing. Daily Cash for one sounds super nice.
Introducing Apple Card, a new kind of credit card created by App..
https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/03/introducing-apple-card-a-new-kind-of-credit-card-created-by-apple/
Customers will receive a percentage of every Apple Card purchase amount back as Daily Cash. Unlike other cash back rewards, Daily Cash is added to customers’ Apple Cash card each day and can be used right away for purchases using Apple Pay, to put toward their Apple Card balance or send to friends and family in Messages. Every time customers use Apple Card with Apple Pay, they will receive 2 percent Daily Cash. Customers will also get 3 percent Daily Cash on all purchases made directly with Apple, including at Apple Stores, on the App Store and for Apple services.
Undeniably a way to lock people into the eco-system until their bills are paid, but also undeniably a really nice rewards system for using it.
