Puerto Rico faces food-stamp crisis as Trump privately vents about federal aid to Hurricane Maria-battered island

After initially vowing to reject the food-stamp funding, President Trump has agreed to the emergency request to help Senate Republicans pass a broader disaster-relief package, which may be taken up for a vote this week.
But at an Oval Office meeting on Feb. 22, Trump asked top advisers for ways to limit federal support from going to Puerto Rico, believing it is taking money that should be going to the mainland, according to senior administration officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of the presidents’ private remarks.
The meeting — an afternoon session focused on Department of Housing and Urban Development grants — ended abruptly, and Trump has continued to ask aides how much money the island will get. Then, Trump said he wanted the money to only fortify the electric grid there.
Trump has also privately signaled he will not approve any additional help for Puerto Rico beyond the food-stamp money, setting up a congressional showdown with Democrats who have pushed for more expansive help for the island.
A senior administration official with direct knowledge of the meeting described Trump’s stance: “He doesn’t want another single dollar going to the island.”
Should be impeached for violating his oath to serve all Americans.

Silly Borealis, didn't you get the memo? Only Trump-supporting conservatives matter.
Hey fuck nugget: no matter how much you want it not to be, Puerto Rico is a part of the United States. It is literally the federal government's JOB to help them.
Hey, we noticed you guys seem to still not care about Puerto Rico (I mean institutionally, not people in this thread), we'll take it off your hands if you don't want it. Signed, Canadians who'd love having somewhere warm to go that would take Canadian dollars
We'll even give them health care.
Well, yeh they–Trump and the Republicans–can’t treating your territories like Puerto Rico as they aren’t exist just because of their skin color.
Again as a territory ‘in limbo’ and still not a state, but yes they need a lot help to recover that Trump administration can’t do... But doesn’t means to act like the opposite to them over pointless partisan defense, everytime Puerto Rico becomes the issue.
Just because it's not a state doesn't mean that it's not part of the United States, otherwise Washington DC would also not be part of the United States.
I course, I will treating them part as one of my country's fancy sounding territories-'Commonwealth'-, but I'm worrying madden, if these people maybe confusing the Island's status as state, just because of a 101 year old law act given them promotion as American citizens, despite not continuing the process of given them statehood a very long ago since 1952.
??? My country's have a little weird terminology to called areas like DC as a Federal District rather than as a Special Autonomous area, and they're already in mainland to give my reason to supporting their statehood than PR's reason to become a newest State.
I hope this pushes for statehood, because it's clear this administration doesn't care about our "island Mexicans" since they have taxation without representation.
Territories of the United States are literally a part of the United States. They just don't have the same status when it comes to weight in Congress. It is the federal government's responsibility to distribute federal aid to any and all states and territories that need that aid. This is not a hill you should be trying to die on. Statehood has literally shit all to do with anything I even said.
unfortunately with Barr's conclusion there's literally nothing a president can't do with a friendly senate and or house
Dude, Puerto Rico has been getting fucked by the U.S for a while. It is a territory of the U.S and despite that it only gets some marginal benefits for being a territory. Whenever the Puerto Rico tries to do something with its own economy, trade, or diplomacy the U.S comes in and shuts them down. Federal funds are never equally distributed and residents of PR can't even access the same tax credits as mainland states.
They're literally treated as a state, but legally are not, but still treated like one, and get fucked. They can get help from the administration it isn't like their fucking hands are tied. The U.S spend more money on Afghanistan then the Marshall plan, so I refuse to believe we cannot help people that our country is responsible for. If the U.S wants Puerto Rico to be a territory and control said territory they need to start helping take care of the people. So you're telling me that a island smaller than Connecticut cannot be helped?
Well, not for the modern-day Republicans and some status quo right-wing Democrats, since they're acting to forget that Puerto Rico isn't part of their political territories, but unfortunately as nation due again with their view of the Puerto Ricans as their own identity and not entirely Americanized as they wanted. Hinted why this didn't go nowhere ever since 1952.
But I don't wanted be that cynical, but this how thing unfortunately go since.
This is the Trump administration you talking about, and they are mostly more racist on them than previous Republican administrations when comes to this issue.
They are literally different and military-focused issues for their the Military Industrial Complex, while this is clearly different. Which given me a wondering, how you make this leap of gap comparison?
They will be under a Democratic administration they will definitely need, not a Republican one, and like them they won't make PR as state over their own reasons.
Your posts are constructed like some sort of fever dream.
I have very little idea of what the hell you are even trying to say.
Puerto Ricans are Americans. Full stop.
Your posts sound more like Chinese paid troll rather than actual posts.
And, I was try telling your users for the 4-9th times in this site since the last year, That I literally suffering from Autism (either High-functioning for most of the time or the opposite) to thanking for my grammar issue. And nothing else.
Okay then.
But I already know how to differentiate the recognized American mainland-born Puerto Ricans are obliviously American, but I only want to expressly feel how I'm cynically disagree; how a one century-old law to the Native Puerto Ricans as Americans in legal US-control grounds is sadly wasteful, when they abandoned their Statehood few-six decades ago; while in the last two-three decades, the Islanders still want to believe one day your US government will recognized their Pro-States referendums as binding, as means to becoming a new state.

Oh crap, that is right. I knew it seemed familiar.
I'm sorry about that.
I swear in Trumps mind he just goes "Puerto whereto? That Mexico? They don't need any of our god darn dollars".
Wouldn't surprise me if its close to the truth due to how he acts.
Oh, that’s 100% the truth. At least when the hurricane hit.
Right now, though, I think it’s more that they embarrassed him, so he doesn’t mind if they suffer.
how high were you when you posted this
