I don't mean to come off sounding racist either, but I'm honestly not even surprised, doesn't make this any less bed than what it is, it's fucking disgusting and this Woman needs all the help she can get.

Don't think womens rights are as prevalent over there. Just a guess.
Among other things, the fact that girls are regularly murdered right after birth because they cost a lot of money to marry. As a result there's a lot more men than women in the population, probably leading to sexual frustration among the former when combined with archaic traditions.
Few things consider
1) A big country with a huge population with diverse cultures and significant part of it are in poverty, backward villages, ruled by political corruption and have extremely poor education.
2) Repression of sexuality and Victim blaming. Honestly the way some of the society views women is quite disgusting. Indian cultures/households that is mostly matriarchal is probably not as bad as those that is patriarchal.
3) Cultural norms in some of these states.
4) Take note that some of these cases are commonly from shithole states/cities/district like for example Uttar Pradesh and Delhi so it's a bit unfair to generalize the entire nation as such. That's like basing the entire US on Mississippi.
I am glossing over many details and intricacies fyi.
