So,
I’ve been doing my research and found out that Garry’s Mod algorithm really isn’t too difficult and makes a lot of sense.
Ping - is it low?
Map - is it installed?
Player Count - is it high?
garry’s mod runs off those protocols to determine where servers sit for certain people.
My question revolved around point 2, Map - is it installed?.
Now I’m sure I’m not the only one who know this but certain servers have ways that they trick Garry’s Mod into thinking it has a map but it really doesn’t. An example being.
[AU] Oculus Gaming runs a map called rp_downtown_oculus. It’s a custom map, only one server runs it and i’ve never been on it but, the servers map text is black. Implying that I have it downloaded but when I join the server with “download no custom content” it says “map is missing”.
How does this server trick gmod clients into thinking it has it downloaded to be higher in the server listing?
If this is a super secret trick could someone at least PM it to me. It seems like an edge these servers have over others.

I don't have an answer, but if it 'was a super secret trick' why would we PM you it? Surely that would just be contributing to the problem you are complaining about.
Having the map installed or not has no effect on server's ranking.

kinda just taking a swing for it.
Also, I remember about a year or two ago superior servers did this trick where they somehow tricked gmod clients into thinking the server was at a low ping at all times no matter where you are in the world but when you joined it connected to their american server.
They also have this thing where the server name changes everytime its refreshed example:
Superior server | Danktown | Printers Event
Then Refresh
Superior Servers | Danktown | C-18
How do they do that?
