Damn shame cause i love Devolver as a publisher.

Their Chief Financial Officer.
Time to throw Devolver onto "people who bit the hand that feeds them" list of publishers/developers taking the bait.
Im much more happy to support the likes of bethesda/CDPR for going out of their way to support open platform choices.

Just one? So Metal Wolf Chaos, My Friend Pedro, and Absolver are okay right? Observation sounds like a neat game, but given Devolver's other lineup I plan to look forward to it's no skin off my bones.

devolver, what the fuck are you doing
Devolver's E3 skits are suddenly a lot less funny.
Epic must be offering a really really REALLY good deal for so many publishers to throw themselves onto such a PR dumpsterfire.
I'll pass.
probably offering them cash and near 0 or actually 0 revanue share
That’s what i’ve been thinking, the buyout is probably enough that they get a guaranteed profit and people actually buying it is the icing on the cake
I find it funny they want to stick it to the man when the only reason anyone know or cares about them is because they've released all of their games on "the man's" platform.
Now that they're hot shit and Epic wants to pay through the nose for their exclusivity, fuck Steam right?
I understand Steam isn't perfect but this mentality is so fucked.
wow that's a cool looking game I'm not gonna buy now
They do. We don't know details but its basically three things.
The higher cut of revenue.
A "Guaranteed Sales" clause, so as an example if you only sell 10k out of 20k units, Epic basically buys the rest.
Big money for for the 1year exclusivity contract
So all those things together basically gives you "free money". No matter how bad your sales are on that title, you will make a profit.
Every publisher who goes for that short sighted deal is playing a dangerous game in my opinion.
Especially indie devs would hurt this on any future game, you make a profit now but without a playerbase or fans tough luck on the new one.
Epic said they won't do those deals forever.
Goddammit, this was one of the only things I liked in that Playstation Direct thing. Fuck off and die already Epic.
If the Discord posts from Snapshot Games are taken at face value, Epic is giving out enough money to cover the game's expenses.

That's also assuming everyone Epic is involved with is getting the same deal.
How is guaranteed sales a good idea, that's just going to breed inept attitudes.
Gonna be 100% real here, and probably get boxed to hell for it, but I really don't get why people are this fucking salty over games going to EGS.
Go back in time a year ago, and tell everyone that there was going to be a new storefront besides Steam, not publisher-exclusive like Origin/Uplay/Battle.net, promising a better curation process and lower prices, and regularly giving away games for free, I guarantee you would have blown everyone's minds. And then tell them it was going to get Journey on PC, and come with millions of dollars in funding for indie devs? It would have been hailed as the second coming.
Remember how much we've bitched for years and years about Steam being ass? It's slow, it's ugly, it's a pain to use, it sucks up way more RAM than it needs to, the sales these days are garbage, it's so flooded with crap that I legit don't hear about as many awesome games as I used to, the content policy is ambiguous as hell, and the only new features are bullshit trading card lootbox crap nobody cares about. I've stopped having Steam run at boot on almost all my computers, because it just sucks so hard. Fucking Origin is easier to use now - fucking Origin.
Have Epic fucked a few things up? Sure, absolutely. The platform seems a bit feature-light - even Uplay has achievements. The Metro Exodus thing, yeah, kind of puts a bad taste in people's mouths. I think the Tencent conspiracy theories are patent-pending grade-A bullshit but the scanning Steam files thing was definitely a fuckup (but as a programmer, I can absolutely believe it was a mistake, not malice). But add all those mistakes together and it's still on par with how much Valve fucked up over the same timespan.
I can understand people not liking PC games being locked to a distribution platform. It's another thing to run, another fucking login to remember. I don't like needing twelve bajillion game clients on my gaming box either. In a perfect world, we'd have a single game library client... but we're never going to get that here in the real world, so long as the PC remains an open platform. It's just the way things are.
But to get this fucking salty over it? People are more butthurt over Epic exclusives than they were over the Mass Effect 3 ending - and Mass Effect 3 was an Origin exclusive!
Yeah, a big part from what is being let out it seems is that Epic is offering "Guaranteed Sales" which basically means that they receive the same cash payout as if they hit a certain number of sales regardless of whether or not they actually did hit them. Which translates in to, "Doesn't matter if they game is good or not, we get paid either way."
We didn't want publisher exclusives, we also didn't want 3rd party exclusives you fucking ninny.
Guess I can't trust Devolver anymore. If Metal Wolf pulls the same shit I'm done with them entirely.
Because EGS is absolute shit and this "timed exclusive" crap is a bunch of fucking garbage nonsense, thats why.
Its not hard to understand.
And I get being mildly annoyed about that. What I don't get is why most people here are frothing at the mouth raging at Epic. People are acting like Epic shot their dog, not like they're making you install another tedious piece of software. My level of irritation at that is like a 2, maybe 3... everyone else is all the way at 10.
I could almost understand if it was defensive fanboyism. It's dumb but it's at least a very well-established way in which people are dumb. But the Facepunch collective is also reveling in Artifact's dropping player count, and cursing them for not making Half-Life 3... so I don't think it's that.
Because Epic is providing a garbage service that lacks almost every feature that Steam has that they're bribing developers to use in an exclusivity deal.
Once again, its not hard to understand. You are actively choosing to overcomplicate this.
Paying off developers to make their games exclusive on an inferior platform to bolster their viability is not the competition people have been asking for, that's why people are upset.
If you think this about installing a piece of software you clearly don't understand why people have an issue with it.
A piece of software that has stolen rather personal data from other software (steam) and does who knows what with it.
In general the store is just bad and according to their roadmap it's going to take them ages to even have simple features that other software already have. Epic Store is unnecessary: They don't exclusively offer their own products such as EA does with Origin or Ubisoft with uplay but they offer other publishers money so they exclusively have non-epic games on their shitty store.
Because they're providing a worse product in every way and instead of trying to compete by being better, they compete by using their huge amounts of money to shut down competition.
They're acting like a monopoly before they've even acquired any real market share. Why the fuck would I want them to continue gaining relevance? They've already proved they're fucking atrocious for consumers.
