• Sketchy staffing firm?

So basically the other week I was contacted by a staffing firm about an IT position. Asked for me to email my latest resume, which I did, and we talked more about it. Asked for the last 4 digits of my social and I bullshitted about it because I didn't want to give it without research. The thing that worries me is that I do not remember applying to them in anyway shape or form. Should I go with the flow on this one or not? https://www.lat36.com/ Dumb thread I know but I honestly don't know what to do.
Not dumb at all. It's good to be cautions especially when you've got unfamiliar people asking for you Social Insurance Number. My question is, did you apply directly thought the employer? I ask because I recently applied to a job on Indeed that I thought was posted by the employer and it wasn't until I got an email from a recruiter that I went back and double checked the job posting and saw it was actually posted by the recruitment agency that contacted me. That said, I see no reason why they would even need your Social number before you've even been hired let alone before you've even had an interview. Sounds sketchy as fuck to me.
I did not apply to the employer or through that staffing company as far as I'm aware.
How did you apply if I may ask?
