I was there for this, was super fun actually having enough people to play the 4 team modes properly without using bots for once, thanks for the spotlight Tyler!
So a video game modding schism then? To explained why TF2C is seemly abandoned for the last five years?
yea the amount of time doesn't explain the lack of content from the mod
out of curiosity does TF2C use v_ models, or is it using the same system as TF2
Basically comes down to that nearly EVERYTHING from the last public beta to the split was being done for Deathmatch while the actual TF2 part of the mod was being heavily neglected, and with a lot of the devs having went with the split, they're down a lot of manpower, and had to basically re-write the mod from scratch because Deathmatch grabbed into and messed with a ton of the actual TF2 side, which was part of why the split was done in the first place, changes to one would cause shit to break in the other, so on.
And on the lack of content, there's actually good bit more in the mod then what was show in the video weapon and map wise, it's just it's all stuff that they're either actively balancing or designing and didn't feel comfortable showing off for the vid.
Christ. The source modding scene would be fucking godlike if mod teams could just stick together and not rip each other apart. Feels like this has been the fate of so many mods.
Hey, if/when it drops I'll play it. I haven't touched it since early 2016.
It's a shame that even with the most skilled groups, such a high percentage of mods have failed because of the same problems: high starting ambitions, lack of a solid creative goal with constant changes, and an extreme amount of toxicity & drama behind the scenes.
I think I remember Facepunch having a long, long, long thread for a supposed "Half life 2: Enhanced Edition" back in 2012-2014(?) which, after hundreds of pages, had several different "teams", no one able to agree on what exactly to add and a ton of feature bloat from idea guys who had daily arguments about small, unnecessary features.
I think it's usually a case of these projects not having clear team/community leaders to actually direct these projects, everyone involved does their own thing with their own vision until the project collapses.
stop you're giving me ptsd flashbacks
Need I bring up the suicide " " " attempt " " " of what at the time was the lead figure behind TF2C ?
Is there a cereal box edit for this? There should be.
Hey guys let's argue for 20 pages where the flashlight for the H.E.V suit should be located! Very important detail that surely every player cares about. Also let's suggest shitty ideas and just say make it optional if disagreed with.
Also I think TF2C having 4player mode is a bad thing to focus on. It just creates a clusterfuck of being shot from everywhere and turns into a deathmatch just with 4 teams.
Then there's the hacking/serious security vulnerabilities that were revealed... 404's meltdown around that time too.
I stopped caring after seeing the espionage gamemode get cancelled
They're all real, but that last one is too real.
Well, I can't say anything in great detail about these other things, but don't fret - There's someone who's going to be kidnapped in some "Infiltration" and a few "Overpowered" fucks who have a bone to pick with the 9 mercs.
Well, that's kind of the magic of it. It's why the main 3 modes they're focusing on with 4 teams is koth, ctf and Domination.
CTF just kind of naturally brings itself to having more teams involved, and is why most 4 team maps in the original Team Fortress where of this mode. It can feel great to rush into an enemy's base just before they cap another team's flag, and then stealing it for your own team.
KOTH, likewise, doesn't change very much in gameplay structure when more teams get involved, it just gets a lot more intense as the cap changes hands more often with shorter timers on them to make up for that.
And DOM, well, they basically designed the mode around 4 teams, with the 2 team version just being present so it is, and it works well with multiple teams trying to push for eachother's caps as the points rack up and each team slowly inches towards a win.
But, yeah, I can completely understand why someone would think it's a stupid thing and possibly even ruins the TF2 forumla, but it was in the original TF and TFC for a reason, and it can be quite damn fun.
details are blurry but it boiled down to the guy scraping his throat with a butter knife
The thing became a mess tbh, sucks that the lack of strong direction otherwise split a promising mod. Sure i'll be known as the guy who made the worst map in the mod. But after i left i pretty much dropped all my belongings with it.
I remember your name! Nice to see some old faces on FP still
My comment about the Civilian umbrella's model blew up too V :v: V
And i remember you as well friend.
