https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/03/pennsylvania-lawmaker-islamophobic-prayer.html A Republican in the Pennsylvania Statehouse is facing criticism from House Democrats after she prayed for God’s forgiveness before the state’s first Muslim female representative was sworn in on Monday, the Pennsylvania Capital-Star reported. State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz gave a nearly two-minute opening prayer before Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, a Democrat, joined the Legislature after winning a special election. In the prayer, according to the Capital-Star, Borowicz said Jesus 13 times, quoted from a chapter of the Bible asking God’s followers to “turn from their wicked ways,” asked explicitly for God’s forgiveness for having “forgotten you, God, in our country,” called Jesus “our only hope,” and praised President Donald Trump for his support of Israel. As she gave the invocation, other members of the Legislature became visibly uncomfortable, and Democratic Rep. Margo Davidson yelled “objection” near the end of the prayer, according to the Capital-Star. House Speaker Mike Turzai can be seen in video of the moment placing his hand on Borowicz’s arm. She then quickly finished the prayer. A number of House Democrats later spoke out against the prayer, and Johnson-Harrell, the new Muslim legislator, called for the General Assembly to censure Borowicz. But Borowicz, according to a local reporter, stood by her actions. “That’s how I pray every day,” she said. “Oh no, I don’t apologize ever for praying.”
Surely, as a supposed christian, you can see how your ever so thinly veiled contempt - using your faux faith as a cudgel to beat others over the head - is not praying: it is hate.
So glad the political climate allows people to be openly racist and face 0 repercussions.
I sincerely doubt that.
Fuck you, fuck your God, and fuck your entire family. I mean that literally, I'll meet up with some rubbers and a couple pounds of turkish amphetamines. We're doing this.
Starting a prayer for forgiving people for their godless actions right before someone of a different religion takes their seat is extremely racist. Context is everything.
Pretty sure religions don't define race; if anything it was islamophobic.
Let's see, where in the state is she from? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/441/38547535-6b80-4f54-b87f-ef65a054eeb6/image.png Seems about right.
And im pretty sure you're deflecting the point with semantics. Also here a lot of rednecks think anyone from central/south asia is muslim by default.
Matthew 10 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. Do not assume I have come to bring peace to the earth, I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘A man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.… The only pity was that jesus followed orders and allowed himself to be crucified instead of simply cleaning house with 12 legions of angels to bring heaven to earth
In Christianity, Jesus = God
This statement made me quite sad, more than I thought initially.
Oh fuck off with your split personality God. Kool-aid having fucktards.
It's the same God. Jewish God, Christian God, and Muslim God are all the same diety. The major differences are their inability to agree on how to worship this diety and who their prophets are. Even Christianity has deep divisions on what the rules should be and who is legitimate (recognizing/not recognizing the pope for example), yet we put those behind ourselves. Why don't we get over this too? Why would God even care which way you choose to worship him, wouldn't he feel pretty fucking pleased that 3 of the world's major religions are all centered on him?
Looks like someone needs to brush up on the concept of the separation of church and state.
No no no; that only applies to religious Democrats, the republican party is exempt from that cause its god's will. /S
So here's the thing, they don't believe that, at least for Muslims. A Christian also from West/central PA that I talked to flat out said that Muslims didn't worship the same God. They believe it for Judaism though, so I think their version of Christianity got conflated with far right rhetoric.
Maybe he should go ask his god for forgiveness in person.
? He is the Son of god who takes up human responsibilities, but he is not literally god.
Whats that about loving your neighbor again?
it really depends on the religion. some demoninations view him solely as the son of god, others view him as both the son and as god himself. Holy trinity, catholics, etc.
"that's how I pray every day" so when Will Ferrel's over the top prayers are more revenant then your own maybe something is wrong with your life, especially if you think donald trump is your lord and savior
not all christianity is catholicism
This isn't a solely catholic idea lmao It's literally not Christianity without the divinity of Christ. Trinitarianism is the core concept of God in the Christian faith. Without it, at best a belief is a poor imitation.
IT'S THE SAME FUCKING GOD! You worship differently but you worship the same god!
I dont think your God would appreciate using prayer to personally attack someone, regardless of how much of a "heathen" that person may be. If God did appreciate it then I think you Christians should reevaluate that whole "benevolent God" thing.
Nope straight up wrong. The Christian God with the trinity is way more different than the Jewish God/Muslim God to the point where Jews are not allowed to pray with christians or enter churches because they are considered polytheists but are allowed to pray with Muslims and enter mosques because we worship the same god but we have disagreements on technicalities. Judaism believes in negative theology and its major issue with the Muslim perception of God is the list of the 99 attributes of God which are considered to be limiting God. Judaism and Islam are super close to each other in both beliefs and practices to the point where Orthodox Judaism is closer to Islam than to Christianity. The entire idea of a Judeo-Christian god is bullshit, the Christian God and the Jewish God are very different. The term Judeo-Christian is a recent one and is an American political term that also implies that christianity is better. Quoting Stephen M. Feldman: Once one recognizes that Christianity has historically engendered antisemitism, then this so-called tradition appears as dangerous Christian dogma (at least from a Jewish perspective). For Christians, the concept of a Judeo-Christian tradition comfortably suggests that Judaism progresses into Christianity—that Judaism is somehow completed in Christianity. The concept of a Judeo-Christian tradition flows from the Christian theology of supersession, whereby the Christian covenant (or Testament) with God supersedes the Jewish one. Christianity, according to this belief, reforms and replaces Judaism. The belief therefore implies, first, that Judaism needs reformation and replacement, and second, that modern Judaism remains merely as a "relic". Most importantly the belief of the Judeo-Christian tradition insidiously obscures the real and significant differences between Judaism and Christianity. What really amazes me about OP is that they are so ignorant of basic theology. I know Orthodox Jews that hate Muslims but still are educated enough to know that Islam and Judaism are very similar, how is it that these christians that spend all their free time circlejerking over scripture be so ignorant?
Not exactly how that can be construed when majority of the Tanakh is considered holy scripture in Christianity. In fact, majority of the pages of any Christian bible is Old Testament, not New.
Provide a biblical citation for trinitarianism, if you would. Most branches besides the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic branches tend have a different take on trinitarianism, which is why many of them are separate in the first place
Just because christianity ripped those books off from Judaism doesn't mean that we serve the same god. Christians don't even respect the laws that are set out in the old testament ie keeping kosher or keeping Shabbat. Additionally, ripping those books off from Judaism without also taking the commentaries along with them renders the old testament in those bibles worthless because of how condensed the Torah is. Christianity sees god as 3 beings at once while Judaism explicitly states that God is one and indivisible. Jesus is seen as a son of God and the Messiah by christians while Jews reject him as the Messiah out of hand. Jews do not believe in Original sin, christians do. Jews believe the commandments of the old testament are binding, christians don't.
