https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/grenier-greens-bc-pei-1.5071962 A federal byelection in the B.C. riding of Nanaimo–Ladysmith gives the Greens a chance to make a pre-election breakthrough. Nanaimo–Ladysmith is one of the party's target ridings and the byelection there could take place just days after a provincial Green Party makes history in the smallest province.
Nanaimo-Ladysmith isn't electing a Green, they reliably send NDP to Ottawa here
Today I had Green Party canvassers come to my door to talk about the party's platform and to try and sign me up for their election day calling list. The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Green Party candidate is Paul Manly and here's his website, if anyone wants to see the local Green platform. And this is the national Green platform for Canada.
yo dude you live down the road from me, CR here. I've never even voted for anything though yet and idk if it'd be green party
I voted NDP in the last election, but the canvassers who came to my door pointed out that only the Greens have an actual climate plan and a plan to turn the green tech revolution into profitable enterprise. I haven't inspected the NDP/other parties' platforms, so I can't say that's actually true, but from what I know of federal politics it wouldn't surprise me. The Conservatives definitely don't because lmao their last leader was an oil man. The Liberals are very much pro-corporations while being socially left, as I understand it. The NDP is still playing the same game of being friendly to business, no matter what else makes them distinct. The Greens are putting climate change at the top of their platform, unsurprisingly for the pro-environment party. These are my hot takes on the major national parties (and the Greens), not reliable political commentary, but if you believe climate change is a priority it shouldn't surprise you that the Green Party is first to the starting line while the others are still at home getting dressed. I haven't decided to vote Green, but apparently they are in a close lead for this riding, and also right now the Conservatives are forecast to win a minority thanks to this shit in Quebec. fml 2019 editionSo fucking pissed at right-wing hypocrites crying about this scandal when they were wagons-circled for the Mike Duffy expenses scandal where the Prime Minister LIED IN PARLIAMENT about knowing about it and trying to cover it up
