The latest Minecraft update makes a few changes to the decade-old phenomenon, none more notable than the fact the game’s splashscreens have removed all mention of Minecraft’s creator Markus “Notch” Persson.Previously, the game’s splash screens—the yellow text you see when Minecraft bootsup—would display random messages, and some of them referenced Persson with stuff like “Made by Notch!” and “The Work Of Notch!”. As of the 19w13a snapshot released earlier today, those are all gone now.
We’ve reached out for official comment on the reason Persson’s name is now missing from the screens. As possible background, though, Minecraft is a game played by millions of kids all over the world, and is now owned by Microsoft. Meanwhile Notch has become a conspiracy theorist whose increasingly erratic twitter behaviour has led to a situation best described as:

Note that while his name has been removed from splash screens, Persson is still listed as the game’s creator in Minecraft’s credits.
maybe its cause at this point notch has done like 1% of the work on the game lol
I'm pretty this is bullshit, as I don't see it on their blogpost or the wiki
its probably because microsoft doesnt want to associate with notch because of his twitter behaviour. if they list his name on the title screen of the game and kids look him up and come across the shit he says on twitter the parents could put the blame on microsoft.
Notch needs friends
If he was less of a total cunt he'd have some.
The depths of the internet combined with his mental health issues caused by stress, too much money, and divorce, has turned Notch into a far-right nazi that cannot even trust his closest friends, in the span of a few years.
there is actually an extremely simple means to test this. splashes are stored in plaintext within the directory '/assets/minecraft/texts/splashes.txt' inside of a version's .jar file.
lets ctrl+f, shall we

its there
yeah, I just downloaded minecraft to check, wonder why its not on the change log.
I envy and dislike Notch. Dude is a prick, but he managed to sell some game made in Java for $2.5 billion. It hurts knowing a guy like that has so much wealth, while people who are working harder than he ever did will never even get close to a fraction of that wealth. He can sit comfortably and shit post all day while others struggle to even make it in the industry.
...Who is this.."Notch" perrson?
Sucks, but it isn't Notch's product anymore. It'd be like if Stan Lee came back from the day and said he still owned the Fantastic Four. He doesn't (well hes dead I mean) and hasn't since the 90s when he sold his ownership of them for a very lucrative deal
I'm not even a little bit jealous of Notch. There's no reason to believe the guy is happy no matter how rich he is. The downside of having "lucked out" is that you've reached the highest point you ever will, and there's no where to go but down. He didn't get there by being a well respected game designer or a great programmer, and despite being filthy fucking rich, he basically has no future. That has to be a living hell.
I wonder if Notch's hat is still in Team Fortress 2.
Still is, yep.
All it does is remind me of other hats that only a small amount of people have that most likely don't play the game anymore/haven't played the game ever have, like those old Dota 2 ones
That being said, Stan Lee was actually a decent person who actually became more tolerant and progressive as he got older. Nobody will ever demand that his name be taken off the Marvel brand. The legacy he has left future generations of Marvel fans could not be more diametrically opposed to Notch's downward spiral into racist insanity.

oh wow ty for that. I legit didn't know Notch was a complete jackass. I still thought the only jokes to be made were that guy being locked in a basement and Notch going on vacation tbh
I liked Notch but now he's just genuinely unpleasant, trolling or not. Maybe he'd have a better look if he didn't feel compelled to respond to dumb questions/replies.
Actually Stan Lee learned not to be a dick. Through attrition. While he was never racist or sexist, he treated his coworkers like crap routinely.
I'm surprised the /v/ greeting is still there. You would think if they're walking back from Notch's dumb shit they would walk back 4chan's too.
Money fucks with people in bad ways. Once he got that money for the rights of the game he started getting paranoid and shut himself off from a lot of people and kinda refuses to make friends out of paranoia they just want his money.
Putting yourself into that state makes you very vulnerable mentally, you get into a state of loneliness and are a lot more susceptible to crazy ideas. He browses 4chan as an alternative to real social interaction and you don't need me to tell you how bad of an idea that is when someone's already in an isolated mindset that people just want to know him for his money.
Shame he turned out this way, hopefully he'll find his way back into reality before he says and perpetuates any more harmful ideas. Doubtful though.
He was, but that's not my point. I think a better example would have been Jack Kirby and him fighting for the rights of the characters he drew before his untimely death. Granted, the kicker was that Marvel treated Kirby like dirt and it was still very dubious on whether or not Kirbys work was work-for-hire.
Part of me does see this as a bit mean but it really doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what Notch is doing now (although I have heard that he buys slightly into that Q-Anon BS... the fuck?), Minecraft isn't his.
maybe he should be less of an unlikable piece of garbage, then
I can see why they did it but it's still discomforting to see how easy it is to unperson someone like this.
Still some quotes from Notch in there, "Let's Danec!" was a popular one before Minecraft, back when he still worked on Wurm.
I don't like the current state of him too but he was the very person who made something good and someone valued it to be worth $2.5 billion, I don't think it's a bit fair to talk about the failure of others and use his success as a excuse even if he is an asshole
(On this context anyways)
Ah yes, removing mention of someone in incredibly minor string of a single video game. Truly, now the future generations will not know who created this game unless they look in credits!
Way to go removing his legacy from the game. Who cares that he's an asshole, he created the game that everyone likes and he should be immortalized no matter what.
