https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/28/trump-adam-schiff-resign-1241405 President Donald Trump on Thursday demanded that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff resign from Congress over his accusations that Trump conspired with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Trump, in a Thursday morning tweet, accused Schiff (D-Calif.), without evidence, of spending the past two years “knowingly and unlawfully lying and leaking” about the Russia investigation. He “should be forced to resign from Congress!” Trump added. High-level Republicans from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) to White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway have repeatedly called for Schiff to step down from his post leading the House Intelligence Committee for promoting the collusion theory. House Democrats have firmly stood behind Schiff, and the California congressman has doubled down on his claims, telling The Washington Post this week that “undoubtedly there is collusion.” Every Republican on the intelligence committee also wants him to step down.
Hahahaha, Devin Nunes first, then you, then we'll talk about Schiff. This is the pot calling the kettle a weirdly-distorted pot in the shiny mirror nearby.
Well, if we're going to start kicking people out of government for making accusations of criminal activity that were subject to formal investigation but not charged, I can think of more than a few others who need to be removed.
It's pretty clear that Trump is trying to turn the Russia investigation into a vehicle of attack on his enemies. This is honestly pretty standard republican strategy. Declare your opponents to be criminals without substaial truthful evidence and muddy the waters to cover your own wrongdoing. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.
More government leaks is good tbh
I guess we know who the GOP and their pet are most worried about, then
for the most part, names and locations should be redacted but I agree
It's not as simple as names and locations unfortunately. Many pieces of evidence are sensitive and reveal sources in unpredictable ways. As a stupidly oversimplified example, "REDACTED, through their position at Company X, provided files showing that Bill Gates did, in fact, eat a small child." So, no names or locations, but that gives an extremely easy place to look if you want to know who ratted you out: who had access to those files? In practice the real world applications are going to be significantly more complex and it makes sense that redaction is a long, thorough process. Because people will be flayed alive if you do it improperly.
so just to double check: you don't think it should be released publicly? you're against that?
No? I'm saying only what I said in my post? Which is that redaction isn't as simple as redacting just "names and locations", as some evidence can itself lead people to its source? You know, literally the only thing I said?
You very heavily implied it's not worth the effort of redacting and releasing the report through your apathetic approach to it. If anything, it seems like you're making the case for keeping it from the public, as it's too hard to properly redact information and keep witnesses / flippers / testifiers safe. Do you not see this? PIck a side.
Uh, no? Literally all I said was that it's not as simple as "redact just the names and locations and ship it". You seem to be under the impression that because I disagreed with one thing that I disagree with you entirely. If you knew literally the first thing about me you'd know that I'm absolutely in favor of releasing the report. I'm not in favor of releasing the entire unredacted report, because somewhere in the 300 pages is going to be evidence that will result in someone being literally murdered because they helped the United States. Jesus, dude.
I agree, but the issue is who is doing the redacting
America is at a crucial turning point; "“Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.” — Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
Jesus bloody christ, this is perhaps one of the most stunningly disgusting acts of corruption and propaganda. I know this has been done at every turn so far but the sheer simpleness and audacity of this kind of call is one of the most clear examples of the peril we are in.
This is the party that unironically say that they need guns to keep the government in check, folks. This isn't an argument for gun control, this is pointing out that a corrupt government doesn't need to use coercion themselves when it is never in short supply of willing, enthusiastic abettors.
