https://store.steampowered.com/app/632360/Risk_of_Rain_2/ I fully trust hopoo games on their early access, RoR 1 was great throughout development.
Loving the ODST drop pods. Really want to try this in coop
"Announced" i thought it was pretty common knowledge RoR2 has been in the works for a few years now? Still though, buying for sure, played the shit outta the first. Here's hoping the gameplay translates well into 3D.
From everything I've read the transition to 3D has been welcomed
I want everyone to know that I am their best friend. And people give their best friends their codes. /s
I wish I knew people that would still be interested in these kinda games
I think the title of the thread should have been 'released' You can buy it now on Steam, and you get a free copy if you buy it before the month is up. Played it for a bit as well, it definitely plays very much like RoR but in 3D
Hit me up on steam, I'm not a huge fan of roguelikes but I liked the first game add me and I'll play RoR 2 with you.
Gave it a try with a friend tonight. It's fucking great
Holy shit this is fucking great, great beginner tip: fucking get gasoline if you see it, it's even better than in ror1
I was curious about this until I saw that it was in 3d instead of 2d. Yeah may seem dumb and petty but I only played RoR1 a few times with friends and being a sidescroller was the thing that stood out to me about it.
Honestly I was put off by the concept too but god damn if it doesn't work well, and some of the relics got even better due to being in 3d, like the aforementioned gas canister
I love Risk of Rain and was initially very sceptical about the jump to 3D - I did not think that RoR's gameplay could translate well to it. I am happy to put my hands up and say that I was wrong. I think it actually works even better in 3D. It's incredible even at this stage of early access.
it's good buy it
Well you're in luck, neither ror game is a roguelike it's just a marketing term in this case.
Permadeath is an element of the roguelike genre but not the whole thing. For example neither ror game is turn-based.
It looks like it's gonna have split screen co-op, instant sell for me
Time for roguelike semantics? ROR sends you back to the start if you die but has metagame unlocks for future runs. The stages are fixed but have variable spawn points for key objects. Enemies are dynamically spawned in as time progresses. Yes each run is different, but not in the same way as contemporary roguelike titles or the offshoot "roguelite" sub genre that's actually been what people rave about. Permadeath is present and if you dont like that as a concept theres no way to sell ROR to you because its integral to the games loop.
When you all die it's game over. Only progression between runs is character unlocks in first tor. This one unlocks more variety in item drops. Note that both games don't get easier between runs, they're completely isolated.
I haven't played RoR1 and i actually find it hard to believe that this series was 2d at first, it just works really well in 3d and is fun as heck.
I think the levels are static right now so more super Mario on nes with no lives.
Mostly. They do have some various elements that change every time, like walls that separate sections, or caves that open up.
I didn't like RoR1 and feel like the controls are far more intuitive in 3D because you can actually maneuver and prioritize targets instead of just being overwhelmed by this moshpit because every enemy you shoot in a group, has another advancing past it unperturbed and the i-frames on the dodge will only help you so long. Also thank god RoR doesn't do that typical roguelite thing of making every single point of damage taken be a horrendous ordeal to replenish. If you die, it's because you got overwhelmed in the present and not because of some dumb mistake you made in the first stage, cascading into more and more mistakes until you die.
Sadly the merc didn't make the trip over unscathed, not only are some of his previous core combos way harder to do in 3d, he's also pretty weak now that there's so many ranged flying enemies, and huge aoes that he can't really get away from.
The game is more fun than I expected. I'm not a big of fan of roguelike games but the game is fun to play and learn regardless. I like that it's optimized well as well, letting me reach around 200 fps on high settings without issues.
Merc doesn't need to get away from AoEs though, since activating the fourth ability makes you invulnerable for the duration. I am however waiting for my boys HAN-D and Loader to be added, or hoping at least one of them will.
I actually said from the outset as this was first being talked about that it wasn't going to happen. But honestly I'm pretty glad that I'm eating my words now.
AoE's rarely come alone though, I've had scenarios where three or 4 of the jellyfish boss do their huge aoe right after each other.
Is it crossplatform by any chance? I assume not, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I haven't played any roguelikes before except Isaac or even cared about the genre, plus I've barely seen much of the first risk of rain so I really didn't know what to expect coming into this, but I have to say I'm loving this so far. Either I look at something and they die, or they look at me and I die. Good stuff.
