Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report detailing his investigation of President Trump and Russia’s election interference will be delivered to Congress by mid-April, Attorney
General William P. Barr said Friday in a letter to lawmakers offering important new details about how the document will be edited before its public release. “Everyone will soon be able
to read it on their own,” Barr wrote.
Barr’s new letter lays out a timeline for the next steps of the hotly-debated process by which Justice Department officials are sharing the nearly 400-page report. In the letter, Barr said
he does not plan to submit the report to the White House for review.
“Although the president would have the right to assert privilege over certain parts of the report, he has stated publicly that he intends to defer to me and, accordingly, there are no plans
to submit the report to the White House for a privilege review,” Barr wrote.
In the Friday letter, Barr said he will also redact any information that would “potentially compromise sources and methods” of intelligence collection, and any information that would
“unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties.”
That's the kicker there.
A bit of foot-dragging, but theoretically fine. It would be very foolish to release source-compromising information to the public.
However, I expect Congress, or at least leading committees in both houses, will receive the unredacted report to verify that nothing was improperly redacted. And, if there is a single word purged just to make Trump look good, I want Barr to be crucified for it. Literally. Two planks of wood, three nails, a hammer and a hill.
Watch them redact all Republican mentions in order to make Democrats look bad. So the report will be what 4 pages long at most?
any information that would “unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties.”
Nah dawg that's not gonna work for us because it's extremely obvious what this means
That's the whole thing. In a functional government I would expect and even accept delays for the sake of national security and due diligence, but these people ceaselessly abuse their positions to cover their asses.
Journalists spent 4 days trying to get the DOJ to explain what they meant by 'summary' of the report and now they're backpedaling because there is probably some damning stuff in the report that they 'neglected' to mention. This whole delay has just been to spam the population with headlines saying Trump did nothing wrong and we should all move on.
I think it was a pretty good move to give it to barr first, so he could incriminate himself
Anyone's "reputation" shouldn't take priority over natiobak security
of course not they already got their copy
but moneyyyyyy
I wonder what the excuse will be for that line. “They’re innocent, they didn’t do anything bad or illegal. It’s just that reporting what happened would make people go on a WiTcH HuNT, over nothing, that’s why they can’t show you. Our economic interests are more important than some snowflake whining ‘ooh, insider trading is illegal’ and ‘following the whims of a foreign power for the sake of having them help you win an election is treason’. You know what’s treason? Insulting the president and saying he’s working for foreigners. Our president is a patriot - imagine if HE had said a president was a foreigner in disguise? Of course, that would never happen.”
Flash forward to mid April:
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, the release of the Mueller report will be moved to November."
”specifically, November 4th 2020”
Barr's Trump's crony. It doesn't have to go to the White House to get what Trump wants redacted blacked out. But we'll see
This report is coming to the public whether he likes it or not, so I'm surprised he's willing to throw away his career just to protect Trump. Trump is temporary and when he's gone and in prison, Barr will be following him while being disbarred. It's amazing that Trump is able to convince people to risk it all just to protect him.
I personally think an end to Trump is an end to a huge sathe of the GOP and possibly the future of the GOP. They are desperate to make sure Trump isn't crucified like he rightfully should be.
