Thus, we present to you the inaugural offering in the Scents of Star Citizen collection. Quantum by Christiano Roberto  The classic fragrances of the past meet the mysterious essences of the future. An innovative cultivation of scents that transcend space and time. Always relevant. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/2304/972b2169-6e27-4ac4-80dc-41bb7b5a13fe/image.png If you're a space dandy, warm up your fuckin' credit card and cancel the mortgage payment because get a fucking look at this! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/2304/5c5f3c97-2cc5-401e-b4f1-40103c6b0ec8/image.png Smell Over IP Inspired by the odorous innovations dreamed up for these fragrances, our devs have initiated an exciting collaboration with FACEWARE, working on revolutionary “Smell Over IP” or SOIP. Imagine the total immersion as you introduce your olfactory system to the curiously sterile, vaguely chemical scent of Port Olisar, the sweaty smoggy bouquet of Lorville, or that disconcerting mystery smell emanating from GrimHEX. Keep an eye on our public roadmap for this aromatic new feature, coming soon! If you're logged into the site, clicking 'buy now' on any of the three "sales" will give you a unique title, "No Scents", along with showing an April Fools picture of Chris Roberts.
It'd be funnier if they weren't already adding features like this.
Such as?
Is it a joke because $50 is the cheapest price in their store?
When you're so out of touch with the games development you think an april fools joke is feature creep.
The joke is that they'd be diversifying merch. Also there is stuff that costs as little as $5 in their store, and the cheapest game package is $45, less than a $60 game, so I don't know what you're doing with this "nothing costs less than 50" thing.
I know it's an April fool's joke. It's just not a funny one since they're making fun of themselves being a money pit; adding features that contribute to the core gameplay.
Can you elaborate on those features please, I'd be interested to see which ones you are referring to.
Uhhh you clearly don't understand Star Citizen. The "core" gameplay is meant to support tons of different careers and playstyles. If you think the core gameplay is just flying in space and shooting people you don't know what you're talking about.
Character customization in a space game about flying ships, like buying shoes; and face tracking over webcam. Cool tech, but where's the game?
The game is right there and you can play it. Character custmization is apperantly a bad thing in an open world MMO-style game now if it's called "Star Citizen", gotcha.
Yeah ok you're hopelessly out of touch with what the game actually is and intends to be. If the game was just a space game about flying ships, why would there be procedural planets? Why would there be ground vehicles? Why are there fps missions in underground bunkers in the live build right now? This just in, facerig and character customization in an MMO is bad, because Star Citizen's doing it.
This thread went to shit fast.
star citizen defense squad reporting in sir
low effort shitpost squadron report in sir
Certainly not if you weren't gonna back up a single argument
To be fair while elix does respond to negative comments about star citizen rather quickly most of the time it's hollow baseless statements people make that typically have less substance to them than they make out star citizen to have.
it's funny how over the past year or so the wide spectrum of grumbling about star citizen's various issues has boiled down to "game cost money >:("
Chris Roberts strapped me to a chair and forced me to back $1,200. It was terrible
This game will never exist
I've seen quite a lot of posts of things like "Why is there an FPS mode? That's not needed!" or "Why haven't they sorted out the space combat/fying before the rest of it?" and they really do show when someone hasn't been paying attention to the game at all. From the start it's been intended to be a game where you're a character in a living universe, not a ship but you can occasionally get out and do optional minigames.
that's funny i guess i was just imagining playing it yesterday lmao
what an unbelievable joke, nobody would spend tens of thousands of dollars on something that will never be delivered in the form it's advertised in
When you look at what people like that know (practically nothing), I can understand why they get ornery over the fact that SC isn't finished yet. They think it's an Elite Dangerous clone and somehow can't release when Elite's been out (in a threadbare state) for four years, and if that were the case I'd also be mad at how long SC's taking. If that was all SC was supposed to be, i.e. the original pitch when they expected to have at most $24 million in the budget (by getting up to $6mil in crowdfunding and then seeking private investors for the rest), it should have been out by now and the limitations of the cramped scope would also be very apparent. But that's not at all what it is. It's a first-person universe, you are always playing from the perspective of a human being (unless you're using remote turrets or the cinematic third-person camera -- the latter of which may be disabled before the game launches), and you're only a ship pilot when you're sitting in the cockpit seat of that ship. You don't even need to own a ship to enjoy the game (although right now there is no way to get game access without buying a ship), as you can be crew on others' ships or be infantry and get dropped off somewhere to fight. It hasn't been "just" a space sim for years.
Bought it
Yeah, game doesn't exist. Don't you know, every game ever can be shit out in a weekend.
Just thought I'd chime in since I lurk here and also follow SC development fairly closely (although I haven't invested anything). There's a huge amount of hate for Star Citizen on the internet, mostly from edge lords who think that they're being funny by jumping on the bandwagon with something like "How do I put my account in my will so maybe my great grand kids can eventually play this game cos it's never coming out" or some shit like that. None of these people seem to of actually caught up with what's happening with the development such as the huge amount of content and changes that have gone live over the last year. They have stuck very consistently with a quarterly schedule, each with a huge amount of content and core updates, which is actually quite impressive. Some of the highlights of the last year include the introduction of Object Container Streaming, which is a bit like the 'portals' you get in the source engine but on a much larger scale. Containers can be anything from the smallest ship up to entire planets. This made the game very performant and most people get a solid FPS while playing now. There's also many new planets, including a coruscant-like planet city called ArcCorp and a new flight model which are going live this week. Many gameplay loops have also begun to be fleshed out such as mining etc. There's a roadmap which details what is going up each quarter - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/roadmap/board/1-Star-Citizen That also includes a roadmap for Squadron 42 which is scheduled to go into Beta in 2020. Most of the work they are doing at the moment is dedicated to getting Squadron 42 live, once that's done updates to SC will ramp up.
You know, I've been on and off in Star Citizen, and I have to honestly say I believe you're wrong. The core of the game at this point in time is actually very solid, and is actually a solid playable alpha. Me and some friend's tested out one of the corvettes during their citizen con thing in october, and we had an absolute blast. Recently I got to try out the latest version they're releasing with a new flight model, and megacity planet and it's honestly amazing, plays nicely too. That said, I unfortunately believe they'll never achieve the scale of gameplay they set out to achieve, unless they go with a procedurally generated universe which can go one way or another.
Hey, no offense but in every thread that mentions SC, you come along to defend it with fairly extensive and well articulated posts. It is nice to see passion but dude how is anyone supposed to reply to such comments? SC has such long development process filled with quite unorthodox business models that are rather confusing to a newcomer. Tons of various modules and other specificities that you have to take into consideration. As someone who passively follows the game, I don't have a clear image how anything works. On a first glance, it just seems like an convoluted development cycle. Your posts just kill any discussion because people did not spent a bazillion hours following the entire development process, this is no offense to you but I just felt like saying it. Sorry for the massive off-topic comment.
I'm not offended per se, but what logic is this? I'm sorry for knowing more about a topic than you? I'm sorry for using a discussion forum for its purpose? If someone comes to a discussion with ignorant hot takes they shouldn't expect a free pass for their ignorance. I'm more than willing to explain things to people but it takes way more text to rebut and debunk an erroneous, ignorant claim than it is to make uninformed misleading claims. Am I supposed to just sit back and let people spread false information in the public square of this forum about a project I'm particularly passionate about? On the topic of the development being difficult to follow, that's absolutely true and it's the developers' fault for failing to organize information in a concise and accessible way. I genuinely cannot blame someone for simply not being able to keep up with the project. I'd prefer to just throw a link at someone to clue them in or disprove their shitty uninformed claim or whatever, but for the most part SC doesn't have handy info ready to be pulled off a shelf like that, and it sucks the fat one. I end up writing longass posts with the shittons of details because there's no single place to conveniently find the information I'm dumping out of my brain. But that doesn't mean anyone who hasn't bothered to dig in gets a free pass to spread incorrect bullshit, either. Don't run away from someone more informed than you, engage and learn. Ask specific questions and I can try to give specific answers; the more specific it is, the less text vomit I have to heave out to give proper context and particulars. I earned a reputation for fanboying hard about SC but I've tried to tone it all back and I don't think some people have noticed. I don't want anyone to think they can't voice their opinion about SC around me or on this forum. I respect that people may not be into it, or they may not like the project for one reason or another, and that's totally fine. But if you want to publicly spread incorrect information about SC, you may be challenged with correct information, by me or someone else. If your response is to just refuse to defend anything you say and run away, that should be a hint to lurk more or ask questions instead of dropping hot takes before pulling the ejection lever. I understand the irony of responding to a post saying "you post big comments and it drives people off" with a multi-paragraph response but, like discussing SC itself, sometimes you just can't fit what you have to say into a tweet. I've been needlessly aggressive and shitposty about SC in the past and I totally admit that, but I've tried to change and I've tried to be concise with detail whenever possible. Don't be afraid to ask me questions, just be reasonable and you'll get a reasonable response. Like basically any other thread anywhere on here.
