I'm sure this has been posted previously, but if it hasn't, or if it has, I'd like to repost it because I think that the message of it is something worth sharing. Especially as of recent when we've been suffering so much incertainity regarding the state of the forum and all, I think the point of it is something we can all relate to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrPgsrfZWOU
Michael's genuinely exceptional sales abilities are one of my favourite subtle details on the show. I also like that one episode where Jim takes over for Michael as manager for a day, and at the end Michael shows actual self-awareness and details how he made many of the same mistakes Jim made before evolving into his current, at face value dysfunctional, management style.
At the surface The Office might come across as crass sitcom, but it really does have a lot of deeper qualities to it that you don't notice unless you spend time with the characters and their lives. The show didn't have such a huge impact on such a large amount of people for no reason.
It's funny, because in the British version, almost everybody is bad at everything.
That's why I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia almost as much as The Office(US). The fact that there is pretty much not one redeeming character on IASIP is such an amazingly funny overhanging plot device, just at its foundation, is perfect. The Office(US) on the otherhand makes for a nice watch because even though basically all the characters have at least one serious flaw to them, they all tend to redeem themselves at some point, and show that they aren't just abhorrent people.
