If Trump winning wouldn't be dooming the planet a small upside would be that Democrats would totally dominate in the 2022 midterms.

The thing is, I don't even think the establishment dems are acting against their own interests by trying to stamp out Sanders. I think most of them would genuinely prefer Trump's policy if it was between him or a genuine progressive like Sanders. I get the impression that they don't like Trump, and would obviously prefer it if Biden beat him, but they don't like Sanders even more.
