Wow, the technology they use to recognize faces is downright scary. No wonder they rebuilt half the streets to make them wider and to make the technology easier to use. Say something wrong, or have your family say something wrong once, and China will be able to track you throughout the whole city, without any chance of escape, and then you'll be gone, or be put on a re-education camp (literally a prison inside a prison). Truly Hell on Earth.

Realistically, is there any way the global powers could pressure China into stopping this?
I feel like sanctions would only make things worse, once there's lack of food in the most populous nation on the planet, hell will break loose, and give them more reason to clamp down.
China is, imo, the #1 threat to democracy, western stability, and the planet as a whole. #1 polluter, violator of human rights, fastest growing population, literally zero ethics in science or technology.

Funny because that's exactly what Trump is doing with regards to his policy with China.
There's really very little soft power influence we can push against China while we're so reliant on them for goods. We need to place import restrictions on them and build up a local tech sector, also take steps to block Chinese buyouts of companies. Until we've done that we can't really afford to do much, but once we do well, unfortunately food, education, and raw materials are the only things China is buying that we can target.
Is it even possible to ferment social change in China? It would be the only realistic thing that can stop this from continuing or getting worse. There have to be huge numbers of people in the country that are upset at the shit the CCP does to their people, but obviously the social engineering shit that is used to control anyone who objects is so integrated into their society that they can't afford to do anything, or even speak about it.
There needs to be some kind of major internal crisis for any change to happen, but the party has more and more direct control over individual citizens each passing day to the point that any potential strife would be quelled simply by erasing anyone who would even know about it.

There's also the fact that corporations and governing bodies are very easy to bribe for a country china's size. You only need to buy out one term of politicians or CEO's and they can make decisions that will benefit your entire country for decades to come.
Taxing the rich has been proven time and time again to actually be effective. Saying they'll just move somewhere else is not true.
