https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/04/stacey-abrams-biden-controversy-1255687 Former Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams said Thursday that former Vice President Joe Biden’s response to allegations he’d made women uncomfortable by being overly physical was "what we should be looking for" in elected leaders.
Nobody's demanding perfection, dumbass.
She probably wants to be VP. Stacey Abrams on the ticket?
She patently rejected that.
"hey stop being creepy, you creepy man" "WTF NOBODY'S PERFECT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM ME FUCKIN LEFTISTS"
It's really disgusting to see Democrats circle the wagons when one of their one is accused of misconduct. It's like they want Trump to win.
preface: I don't like Biden But she's not wrong, in a way. We shouldn't demand perfection from people, because openness is the kind of thing that is necessary. Anxiety at saying the wrong or doing the wrong thing when you have only good intentions can cause you to hide yourself which is bad for discourse and bringing this kind of stuff to light. But that doesn't change that he should still apologize. That twitter video showed him explaining his perspective but didn't really give the kind of accountability that people want. It does show a level of accountability, though. Shows that he recognizes that society can (and many do) see his actions as inappropriate and creepy.
I mean, "mot sexually harassing anyone" is kinda a reasonable litmus test right?
Sort of, she rejected being a VP pick going into the primary. On the Biden question specifically, Abrams added, “Running in a primary to be the vice president is very different than someone who has been selected by the party to be the nominee asking you to serve as a partner. And I am open to all options. https://www.thedailybeast.com/stacey-abrams-rejects-joe-biden-vp-rumors-on-the-view-you-dont-run-for-second-place She also said she wouldn’t be opposed to serving on the ticket as vice president once a nominee was set. https://news.yahoo.com/stacey-abrams-nixes-joe-biden-163331650.html
No we should demand perfection from our leaders. The stakes are low when joe bumblefuck is an out of work construction worker who drinks his paychecks away makes a mistake but for our leaders? with how much power they have over our lives I expect nothing less than perfection because anything less leads to mismanagement and state inefficiency at its primary goal of serving its citizens. Biden is a terrible candidate with so much baggage its quite literally hanging under his eyes.
"We cannot have perfection as a litmus test" Yeah sure that's why you forced Al Franken to resign, right?
these people are actually 100% spineless and nothing they say or "stand for" ever means anything and a prime example is how they're now pushing an establishment sexual predator for their nominee If Biden gets nominated trump has 2020 locked down
Seeing these sorts of statements in the news again and again make me feel like I'm stuck in some horrible dream. If they think that Biden will be afforded the same level of 'forgiveness' for this sort of thing as a certain someone, they're sorely mistaken. The sorts of people who'd be nonplussed by the complaints and the frankly hypocritical behavior by Democrat leadership are the sorts that will never vote Democrat anyways. You know who does care? The Democrat voter-base. If they run him or a candidate like him you can bet your ass that their base won't be energized enough to produce the turnout they need to win. At this point I'm beginning to wonder if it really is malice, and whether the Democrat leadership is content to be a runner-up party forever so long as they keep getting paid by the right people to not step on any toes.
Half of Democrats think Biden is the only one who can beat Trump and the other half think anyone but Biden can beat Trump.
Fun fact, the half of Democrats that think Biden can beat Trump are the same ones who thought Clinton could beat Trump. Spoiler: they were wrong.
I haven't sexually harassed anybody. Am I perfect?
Just when I was starting to think the Democratic Party has a chance in hell of reforming for the better. Maybe we don’t have a choice after all.
Organize and get behind real progressives, or these fucking idiots are going to give us Trump 2: Electric Boogaloo.
I think there's a good case Biden will do better in the places trump had surprise and marginal victories, like Wisconsin
My biggest fear is that Democratic control of the branches and a centrist president will extinguish the progressive movement because things are no longer Trump. Complacency is the biggest enemy in politics.
I would say yes, but I just want to point out the irony that Donald "Grab Them by the Pussy" Trump is currently president of the United States. Generally speaking though, the Democrats need a spotless candidate with incredible personal integrity and moral consistency. Being hypocrites, or peddling fake progressiveness is going to cost them another election.
I'd guess it would too. But I don't think either progressivism or Trumpian nationalism have much of a claim to holding top offices or leading national parties. They're too niche and their victories depend on unusual, squeezing circumstances that just don't last or affect everyone. I don't see them, in the long term, ever actually reaching past lower parts of government and being popular with a few particular demographics. You have to remember our size, two party system, first past the post elections, indirectly elected offices, etc. essentially force moderation in our politics. That's why socialists historically never progressed past some positions like mayor or congressman. It's a filter on popular and more radical ideas because it forces compromise, broad coalitions, an image of credibility, and the ability to navigate the heights of government. Radicalism depends on centralized politics, which is why I condemn the push for EC abolition as opportunism. Also, the relatively comfy lives of people in the US means the left doesn't really progress past some kind of left-liberalism. Socialism's return is based almost exclusively on young (often white) people coming of age in the wake of economic and social change, and it means they both don't own much or (in some cases) don't identify with America's cultural legacy as much. Past two examples of radical periods I can think of, labor wars of the late 19th and early 20th century plus the 60s, were followed by moderation. Ask any Marxist or anarchist, they'll tell you all about the declawing nature of liberalism. This is why I favor decentralization. It's a prerequisite for direct democracy and more popular ideas.
Clearly not, you made the fatal mistake of being on Facepunch and then posting in political threads on top of that.
