Hello everybody, nice to meet you again, haven't posted threads here for a while!
So i'm developing a big dystopian-cyberpunk-depressed-future-littlebitsci-fi roleplay project with own world history and a lot of cool gameplay features. So, how's all know - DarkRP has shitty optimization and it can't handle a lot of scripts and has a lot unusing features.
And yeah, i decided to use some clean gamemode (maybe recode darkrp, maybe find base, maybe code from the beginning). Just wanted to discuss my plans here, how are you guys think? What will be easier? Recoding darkrp, create new one gamemode or maybe you know some ready clean RP gamemodes? In gamemode i only need jobs, wallet, agenda, arrest system and that's all. Everything else i will code myself in the addons realm.
My objective is - to create a well-optimized (60 fps minimum with 50 people online) semi-serious roleplay server with character based system and another serious RP elements, but without shit like "/me", "/roll" etc.
So yeah, your thoughts?
P.S:
I watched for tiramisu gamemode, but i think it's really outdated. Don't offer CW or NS, i don't like 'em
Create a new gamemode.
This way its your code, easier to optimise and you can understand whats going on to the max.
Base gamemode doesn't have the /me, /roll, commands so you can either create them using playersay, onplayerchat or even ULX.
Don't use other peoples gamemodes when your making it 'yours', as they might get offended and like I said its much easier to make your own.
(You might think it takes long, but after you figure out the basics in only takes a few hours to get your custom base setup)
If its RP you will most likely derive your gamemode off of sandbox, then later when you have your whatnots setup you can always derive the gamemode to something like Base.
(Also you can install FPP if you can't be bothered doing 50+ lines of just function SANDBOX:etc)
This idea just crossed my mind about 2 days ago and I really want to start something similar once I'm experienced enough with GLua.
As for personal opinion I would say start from scratch - you'd have much more control over optimization and wouldn't have to worry about limitations or workarounds.
Yeah, i started to develop it since New Year, but took a pause because of college and for getting the bugs worked out in my gmodstore addon (it's already released, but i have paypal issues, so it's disabled. Will post it here, when everything is done). And now, i have a good amount of time to work on my project
Thank you guys for pointing me in correct direction. I will follow your advices and will start creating clean RP gamemode, maybe will upload it here, if somebody wants he will take it.
Any chance you're up for suggestions?
Im sorry, but what do you mean? Up to suggest for you or listen your suggestions?
Listen to suggestions?
Yes, of course. You can leave them here or in private messages and i will think about them
I was thinking it would be cool to have story NPC's scattered around the map and there being a storyline (and the code would make it so you could easily add/change story elements) and you follow them like in Bladerunner and you would get rewards/keys/clues that lead you to, otherwise, inaccessible parts of the map. Adding puzzles and stuff too.
Oh, i was thinked about storytelling method too. I also thought about electronic books scattered on map too with lore-fragments, like deus ex had. And also give ability players to create their own stories in electronic books. Pic related.

You could have the NPC's give the players items and information and when another player comes along the NPC redirects that player to the previous player who now has the clue/information/item.
Hey, sounds good. But first of all, i need to write a quality, deep and interesting story and world description, so players were really interested in exploring it
I‘am already!
Surprisingly I actually really love the sound of this, it seems to have much potential.
Really? Can you share with us so we read this ?
thank you)
