I'm glad he touched on the Witcher3's side stories having a 3 act structure. Every time I turned that game on and played even one side mission I was blown away by how impactful and immersive the experience was.
When he talked about "procedural volition" I immediately hoped he would bring up games like Dwarf Fortress. He went on to continue talking about it as if it was this thing that didn't exist and everyone was waiting for, and I kept thinking, this is just Dwarf Fortress. Dwarf Fortress is the biggest "make your own story" game that I've seen that doesn't require a real human "dungeon master" to hold the game together like D&D. Only problem is Dwarf Fortress is prohibitively hard to get into.
Doesn't help that the default look is horrendous, though maybe the Steam version will change that and at least allow people to overcome that main obstacle.
