We all have lurked the internet for quite a time. Of course we're going remember how things were back then. And if one day, you'll go to history, all your knowledge might be lost. So the question is, what do you remember from Internet's past? I still remember times when various Game Communities used to be more creative. I'll bring DooM as a prime example: DooM has witnessed such gems as Ultimate Torment 'n' Torture, Valiant, Knee-Deep In ZDoom… And of course, we can't just forget about ZDoom Wars. Oh, there was half a dozen of ZDoom Wars servers that had players in it. And that was in Skulltag era of DooM. Another, the close second example is M.U.G.E.N. Even before 1.0 is released, the community was thriving. A number of quality content was created by community, beautiful stages, actually fun characters... People like P.o.t.S and Reuben Kee(peace be with you), were memorized and became legends. The past was truly the Golden age of Creativity. The Golden for many communities, but not all. And you can't recall the past without bringing up it's dark side, so let's get to it. The Sonic Team is a meme in and of itself, but the Sonic community can also stand out. The "Original the Character" outbreak in Dev-... Let me just say, A Certain Art Station, has really cemented The Dark Age of Sonic OCs. This, in turn, has led to memes that were designed to poke fun the community, such as Coldsteel the Hedgeheg. Hmmmm… And that's, sadly, all I remember. As much as I want to recall something from a past, I don't remember anything anymore. Anyways, I feel like I liked the past more. I wish I could go through the time and enjoy the past one more time. Because the present had became stagnant, boring, and generally doesn't appeal to me anymore.
I remember a lot about Facepunch, how it was a SA ripoff in the beginning, Garry's cancer, Myspace and Geocities... Not my main
I remember when using mixing up their and they're got you an instaban.
I remember when this place had a furry subforum.
When the STALKER modding scene was fresh, new and very very active. Those were the days.
i remember when google search didn't have filters, you could search all the weird porn your heart desires. But now you have to use other search engines for that...
I remember when I was dumb as a rock #relatable
When a 2GB game was a big game.
when I joined fp in 06 people made fun of mikfoz for being old now I'm the old one pissing in a sea of piss
I will never forget the sounds of America Online
I remember the old days of chat in games, where men were men and everyone was a faggot. You had to be big and tough to survive the never ending onslaught of slurs, and there was absolutely no fucking teamwork. At least in the games I played idk about anything but DoD 1.3, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Urban Terror. It was either that or complete silence. It made me appreciate a good conversation a lot more. I'm glad its (sort of) not like that anymore these days but I also miss the days when the big scary buzzword "toxic" wasn't thrown around constantly cause somebody was dishing out some elementary school level trash talk.
People who had any form of internet were the coolest people in the neighborhood
back when i was young if you knew how to use the internet you were a fucking nerd. no one got image macros except for nerds, now they're called memes and everyone and literally their grandmas like them.
had a ton of fun playing your freeplay mod merge back in the day
I remember when YTMND was the shit. I used to spend so much time just running through all the different sites, and I still go on YTMND every now and then to see all those old fads from my childhood.
Low quality flash porn everywhere we didn't have any fancy SFM we had to jack it to 5fps FLASH PORN or BIBLE BLACK if we were LUCKY, like REAL MEN
I remember when game manuals had great information and stories regarding the game itself. Years gone by and it slowly turned into nothing but a piece of paper in the box.
I remember when we were on a 56kb modem and had like an hour of internet allowance and we would be selective with which flash animations/games we loaded up and keep the webpage up for many hours after the internet was gone just to play the content lol then the day of broadband came and everything was lightning fast and there was the power to access all the stupid flash videos and games and everyone used MSN and had a million stupid and loud reaction emotes and hearing this sound all the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdVfYylHM9g
I remember in middle-school when going on the internet made you part of a clique. Someone who spent time on the internet talking to people was just it's own type of person like an emo or a jock.
Free minutes of internet being given out by computer mags. Dialup sound Relatively newer but actually having to be invited to gmail.
Vent, BF2, bf2142, CnC Generals, release of HL2 and the subsequent old school GMod days Goddamn I miss the golden age of gaming
I remember talking to some classmates about dialup internet and they were looking at me like I was fucking retarded. Even imitated the sounds and everything but that just made it worse
Not Even Doom Music
Bible black? Please, come talk to me when you've seen la blue girl, that was my first foray into tentacle porn. I remember all those old flash animations on newgrounds, they were some of fondest memories.
its funny now but one day when these kids are our age and we're actually oldheads they'll be the ones laughing
They gave us floppy disks to store school files on during computer class in elementary school
I remember the first time I used Google in school and I searched "Spears" (as in the pointy stick) and there were hot pictures of Britney Spears and young me was like whoaaa. Also using Google Maps/Earth felt like the future. Also having to print out sheets of Map Quest directions ahead of time if you wanted to navigate somewhere you didn't know how to get to.
I own an official La Blue Girl T Shirt
I remember scouring the internet for every Sven Coop map or model I could find. Still got them on a hard drive somewhere.
I had to decide whether to get standard Battlefield 2 or the complete collection with the expansion packs, and I ended up getting the standard edition because the complete collection was like 4GB. Also starting a mod download before going to school and having to wait for an hour after coming home until it was done. I miss big mods like AIX, POE, FH2, USI and OPK2. Also BF2 Sandbox.
