I was looking into the survival game genre and stumbled upon Rust and decided to give it a go. Got very fascinated by the base building part but apart from that the game feels so unsatisfying. I constantly got these "wtf we're they thinking" moments. It's like the game was designed by a person that did'nt graduate from his game design education and got angry at the world. So many small details where you get the "ahh come' on man" and not that rewarding experience, that are the fuel that make a game good in the long run. -deployables that can't be moved or upgraded in place. -small fails in your base design can ruin your entire plan because you can't destroy building parts. -can't do t1 experiments on a t2 bench, it's supposed to be nice to upgrade and not something you regret. -wolf attacks that splatter your entire screen so you can't fight back and bears running faster than you. -spawning with low life after getting killed so you need to use a long time to get back into defending your loot, base etc. -tons of small bugs, one of the worst for me have been the tank on launch site having wallhack and will attack and reveal your position through walls. -odd mix of pvp and pve...No, I don't want to get plowed down by an apache helicopter while fighting 2 guys with a crossbow. -lack of official solo servers, yes it would require active admins, but not having them lost you a massive playerbase. -to much scrap grind compared to how often you lose your fights, 250 scrap are A LOT. -base griefing, game mechanics in base raiding should not be about protecting the thief, but the base owner..I understand raiding are a core mechanic in the game but even the latest patch made it harder to defend your base...should be impossible to place a new TC shortly after the old was broken. -Vendoring machines should be close to impossible to raid, some people actually put an effort into getting the Bp's etc to make a legit living through the wipe, but also to make shops with cheaper items viable, since many areas are rich in some ressources but lack others. -loading time on game, game UI, lags. -extremely rude and toxic community I could go on and on and the bottomline is; I SOOO wanted the game to work but it did'nt, far to often I logged out dissapointed and not rewarded.
Hey buddy i think you got the wrong door, the rust subforum is 10 clicks down.
Wrong subforum.
Ahh well, my bad. Even the forum have a lame layout and are not intuitive.
Oh, fuck you leather man. Maybe you and i should settle it right here in the thread if you think you're so tough.
Oh yeah? Rest your shitposting.
Ha! Yeah right man. Let's go! Why don't you get out of that leather stuff? I'll strip down out of this and we'll settle it right here in the thread. What do you say?
Yeah, no problem Blaster.
You got it. Get out of that uhhh, jabroni outfit.
Yeah, smart ass
Guys, please stop fighting! It's what he wants!
I'll show you who's the boss of this subforum.

Not quite. Been playing hardcore pvp/rvr/wvw and fps games for 20 years, played every release worth mentioning in both genres since DaoC and Wolfenstein. I know my games and can take a beating, Rust just got some very basic functions wrong.
1: -small fails in your base design can ruin your entire plan because you can't destroy building parts. -Uh No, you can destroy building parts. 2: can't do t1 experiments on a t2 bench, it's supposed to be nice to upgrade and not something you regret - There is a reason for that. 3: wolf attacks that splatter your entire screen so you can't fight back and bears running faster than you. - Just like in RL 4: spawning with low life after getting killed so you need to use a long time to get back into defending your loot, base etc - Maybe that is enough to make you rethink your gameplay. Instead of just jumping straight back into PVP you should consider avoiding confrontation. 5: tons of small bugs, one of the worst for me have been the tank on launch site having wallhack and will attack and reveal your position through walls. - Wont deny the bugs, but again...we aren't in full release 6: odd mix of pvp and pve...No, I don't want to get plowed down by an apache helicopter while fighting 2 guys with a crossbow. - Again, sounds like you are more concerned with confrontation than avoiding it. 7: lack of official solo servers, yes it would require active admins, but not having them lost you a massive playerbase. - And there never will, but that doesnt mean you have to stay on official. TONS of community servers out there that offer multiple styles of gameplay. 8: to much scrap grind compared to how often you lose your fights, 250 scrap are A LOT. - Once again, avoiding confrontation. But, there are so many elements on how to get scrap,no excuses. 9: base griefing, game mechanics in base raiding should not be about protecting the thief, but the base owner..I understand raiding are a core mechanic in the game but even the latest patch made it harder to defend your base...should be impossible to place a new TC shortly after the old was broken. - Welcome to Rust. No, and totally disagree. This is about survival,if you cannot find a way to survive all the negative elements, you should re consider playing. 10 - Vendoring machines should be close to impossible to raid, some people actually put an effort into getting the Bp's etc to make a legit living through the wipe, but also to make shops with cheaper items viable, since many areas are rich in some ressources but lack others. - The vending machines were created for people to trade without confrontation. And areas that are rich with resources are completely based upon the generation of the map. Different servers provide different resource areas based on procedural generation,it's random. 11: loading time on game, game UI, lags. - Not going to deny this however, it is also based on your machine, there are fixes. 12: extremely rude and toxic community - Yep, it is what makes this community AND game...awesome. Grow a pair already. This game is not for the meek or timid. Doesn't sound really like this game is for you man. I would have personally recommended that you take a strong look into a game in development before purchasing. I mean, no days with early access games there is so much of the unknown, however with Rust there is so much content out there that no one has the excuse of saying "I didn't know what I was getting into"
Rust is a bad game? Who knew
Funny thing: I spend 3 months in looking vids on YT before buying the game. Because I knew the game is not the usual game AND because I know there were chances this game could not really be the kind of game I would enjoy. I have seen quite a lot because I was both very fascinated by the kind of game and very repelled by the "legends" I read about the "toxicity" of the community. In the end, after lurking months, I made my mind and I am really satisfied with my choice. The community is not "toxic". Just play the game as it is. All the rants about "the game should be like this" or "the game should be like that".... Well, put up your own server. You can. Do it. There are plenty of mods to customize it so wildly! And plenty of videos to help you doing it. Gather your friends and play the way you want. So reeeeeing about how difficult/harsh/toxic it is is just dumb. And about the bugs. Well.... Bring me a software so complex that is 100% bug-free and I'll prove you that you are dreaming! :-))))) Have you wonderede why there are monthly updates? ;-)
"deployables that can't be moved or upgraded in place." This right here; dis I agree... Everything else apart from the bugs is overall just a misconception on what Rust truly is, and how fast bears actually run
You dont say how long you actually played the game for ? , Like the server i play on gets players who log on stay around and are quite happy till the heli kills them or a wolf eats them, or (because its modded) one of the bots kills them , then they leave, They dont stay around and work out how to play better and survive , This game has its good points and bad , like all games , this one has the advantage that there are thousands of servers running where you can find one that suits your gameplay
Im going to go over how I feel about each one of your points. To start I am going to say Rust has been developed only by a small team and the name Facepunch isnt up there with big brands like sony, ubisoft etc. I also would like to say that I have 4k hours. -extremely rude and toxic community I assume you are speaking of workbenches? Yeah ok it would be nice to have them upgrade in place but their dimensions are slightly larger as they get to a new tier so that can cause issues. And you cannot move a workbench simply due to how OP it is. In a raid defense you could easily pick up your very durable Tier 3 workbench and plonk it infront of a doorway to halt a raider's advance Destroying building parts on will is also pretty OP. For instance every night when you log off you could seal you loot behind 3 armoured walls with no doors to it and then once you are back online just crack it back open. You can destroy building parts but only 15 minutes after you place them. If it is a stone part or even a wood part it really isn't hard to get rid of it if you use melee on a soft side. Here you can find the best way to destroy things, search for something and go to "durability" https://rustlabs.com/ This makes sense actually yeah. But then I want to ask "why do you want to do t1 experiments?" T1 experiments are pretty useless unless you want a piece of clothing or a poor tier barricade. Experiments only become fully useful at t3 when the items you are looking for are really rare and don't just pop out a barrel. When you are on low HP and your screen has that blood effect I can fully agree that it is very annoying and it should be removed or atleast lessened. Bears running faster than you is a real life fact iirc. You should be able to escape a bear by building a high enough foundation and jumping on it or by finding a nice rock, we've all died to a fair amount of woodland animals in our play time XD 60 - 70 hp isnt exactly low hp. You need 1 medstick to get back to full HP. I recommend having a stash of pumpkins or similar to munch on near your sleeping bag/bed as firstly they give 10HP per one eaten and then they also give a nice amount of food and water Yeah this one bugs me too but it comes about simply due to how the AI works. The AI needs to know where you are but it has to pretend to not know where you are until it sees you for it to work properly. I would love to see this fixed, clearly the walls in some places just arent opaque to bradley's vision If you play smart when the helicopter comes near you should remove guns from your hotbar (includes crossbow) and have only 2 pieces of clothing on, it doesnt matter what the clothes are. A hazmat is ok. The patrol helicopter only attacks geared players, maybe one day when more lore is revealed we will fully know why I dont understand the need for the server to be official. If you look in community and even modded the MAJORITY of the servers are solo or either solo duo trio. There are bloody loads! If you are too scared to use the roads you should take some lowgrade fuel and then head out to the ocean where it is a lot quieter, barrels spawn on the ocean and give the same stuff as a road. You could then recycle these components for even more scrap at a quiet monument like lighthouse or if it is accessible go to outpost where you want lose your stuff. While you are on your boat you could also use the diving sites underwater with a diving kit to get even more stuff - you can get a lot of high quality metal from big crates! The best thing about using the ocean to farm is that you normally profit in lowgrade fuel, the red fuel barrels give you more than what you drove up to them for. On top of this, you can then use a small oil refinery (either at a monument or your own personal one) to cook the crude oil to triple it into low grade fuel. All I can say about this one is make a stronger base and try to hide your TC. you can also play on servers that don't allow griefing. From a raider's perspective they need to place a TC after the raid to secure the loot. If they don't have their own access point to the base then they can't retrieve loot after the raid If the actual vending machine is broken then all loot disappears so all you need to do is make sure the actual base is strong - if the base is harder to raid than what is in the vending machine it won't be profit and no one will want to raid it. Rust is a pretty intensive game but the loading process can be sped up by having rust installed on an SSD. It is also faster if you have 16gb of ram compared to 8gb. The game is built around stealing other people's stuff and ruining hours worth of work, did you not think toxicity would come out of this? Just like I do and many others do simply laugh it off. Thankyou for reading my feedback to your points
