I've always been a bit more interested in Boreal Aleph than Project Borealis simply because it's being made in the Source Engine, and the music that's been made for it so far sounds very close to Kelly Bailey's work.
Hearing they have an actual Source Engine license (especially after the mess that was HDTF prompted Valve to be more stingy), are updating the engine with modern features like PBR, and are apparently re-working Hammer? Multiply that interest by 10 or so.
I really do hope they release their development tools, I've said before that one of the biggest problems with source modding nowadays is just how woefully outdated the mod tools are, if the community can get their hands on some reasonably good updates that would unlock so much potential.
It's interesting to see level prototyping that pretty much looks like old beta gameplay design and concepts solidified again, but I dunno. They're rewriting a lot of stuff because it's a newer version of the engine, but i'm hoping that the gunplay is a bit smoother than HL2 in more than just sounds and animation, and that they bring more ideas to the table for actual level design than just being half talking, quarter tech demo. This guy really seems to enjoy the gameplay so far, but that doesn't account for everyone else.
between this and Jabroni Brawl its awesome seeing all of these great mods getting engine access, especially after the trainwreck that HDTF was
Boreal Alyph is looking super promising, i'm really curious to see if they plan to release their rework of Hammer
It seems that Source in general is getting a bit of a resurgence these days after starting to fall off in the mid-2010s. I guess since everyone else realized that Source 2 is never gonna see the light of day outside of DotA junk...
I wonder how much is possible to reintegrate from Respawn's custom branch used for Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends...
Honestly? Probably very little. From the way they've talked about it, Respawn's engine is Source largely in name only. I doubt any of the added stuff can be backported to previous branches of Source given how different the engine probably is internally. Especially TF2 and Apex Legends since they received further upgrades compared to the original Titanfall.
