Eric Andre as a hyena? Now that's a cameo. Didn't even know he was involved in this
Literally the only thing it has going for it is that it looks good in terms of presentation.
If it's such a shot-for-shot remake, should've just used the original voice lines
its not, and you need actors to record the new lines you need, they dont pop up
Remaking the same story allows Disney to artificially extend their copyright on the story. They original will eventually run out, but if they create effectively a shot for shot remake they can claim copyright on that instead.
(I'm not a lawyer, this is just my understanding of the situation)
This is like those talking dog movies
Really awkward feeling
For all the CGI spectacle on screen i still feel like all the Disney remakes have a really washed out look to them, just kinda bland coloring overall making it look incredibly unappealing to me.
I've personally never had a problem with the disney live action remakes. They're not always for me, but I thought the Jungle Book was pretty cool (and Mowgli is a super underrated Netflix movie in the same vein) and this seems like a decent excuse to get out of the movies.
Doesn't Disney just lobby to extend ALL copyrights whenever steampunk Willy approaches public domain?
They also do that. Disney effectively wrote all modern US copyright laws to stop anyone from doing exactly what they did to make all their money
I forgot this movie existed
Honestly, I got pretty won-over when I saw Craig from Parks and Rec is playing Timon.
Beautiful animation. Glad they went for mostly realistic proportions rather than that weird mixture of realism and exaggerated features.
And because of this the movie will be vastly inferior to the original due to the lack of emotional conveyance.
I should clarify: I don't really agree with making this movie at all, but since they are I think it might as well go all the way. At least then there is some novelty to it.
I can´t believe Scar is played by an actual stuffed lion

I don't think it's even a copyright thing, the length is way longer than than the 20ish years that the lion king was released. It was probably just a safe bet on nostalgia that will make a ton of bank.
To echo what others have already said, yeah it's a stunning looking film... However, the characters can't be nearly as expressive when they have to adhere to these realistic visuals.
I think in the end that's gonna be what sinks this movie, fortunately or unfortunately.
Scar: run away simba, and never return!! :I
Simba: :I
wow so fucking emotional
Also as far as I can tell Disney's current CEO Bob Iger is deathly afraid of two things:
animation
new properties
Iger is known for being both similar and opposed to the previous CEO, Mike Eisner. Eisner was known for taking great creative risks with the company but often keeping a tight budget to avoid financial risk, Iger is the opposite, he's tried very hard to avoid creative risk, but is willing to take financial risk. Hence under his tenure Disney has been buying up other IPs, pushing remakes/rereleases of old IP, and renovating its properties extensively. These are expensive undertakings that present little risk to the prestige of the brand and require little creative effort, but rake it big money. In his time as CEO Iger oversaw the release of exactly two traditionally animated feature films, and regarded both of them as failures which resulted in the company making a shift toward live action and CGI.
Boy, I can't wait to see how they remake shit like

If they change that scene I'm sure there will be a good amount of SJW's complaining that Timon didn't dress in drag and do the hula.
I don't see how he can be afraid of animation since pixar and disney have just been pumping those babies out. yeah, they aren't traditionally animated but the industry for animation has changed.
I'm afraid Simba is just going to have the :3 face the entire movie
I cant wait to forget this
I think it looks good.
Man that trailer was basically the whole movie. No need to watch it now.
