• Scott Morrison calls Australian federal election for 18 May 2019

Voters will go to the polls on May 18 to decide which party will form the next federal government. Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited Government House early this morning to ask Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove to trigger an election. Mr Morrison said the election would offer a "clear choice" for voters between the economy the Coalition had overseen for the last six years versus "Bill Shorten's Labor Party". He argued it had taken five years to repair the economy Labor left behind when it lost government in 2013. "Now is not the time to turn back," he said. https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-11/prime-minister-scott-morrison-calls-federal-election-may-18/10991614 https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-11/federal-election-live-scott-morrison-calls-may-18-election-date/10968588 https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-11/federal-election-2019-australia-has-two-types-voters-issues/10992018
C'mon Shorten don't fumble it. I'm ready for the chaos to end.
If only I could do a Toxx, cause I swear that the Liberals will get back in. That is how much faith I have in our country.
100%, i have no doubt that liberals will get back in and its so fucking infuriating. if only people would take the time to do some research before they vote.
Recent polls indicate Labour taking the election, but with a month to go and campaigns just starting up you can't say these polls are for certain. I personally doubt the Liberal party will get another term mostly because they have little to show for their previous two terms and you also rarely see any government holding more then two terms in Australian history.
it doesn't take long for the media to turn the masses against labor.
haha oh fuck I need to update my deets I need my drivers (learners) permit to do this without a hassle. Lost it like six months ago If I don't do it this week, it will be really hard to get it done next week 👀 My housemate and I also noticed that it's a lot cheaper to do a learners test every 10 years instead of paying vicroads like 80 bucks every three years (or 270 for 10) if you don't drive at all, only using it for legal ID. reissuing a license is only like 25 bucks
While you're not wrong; https://twitter.com/couriermail/status/1113086453184028672 I still think it's going to be a up-hill struggle for the media to bring down Labor this election.
Yeah the Murdoch papers are going to be ragging Labour hard the coming month (They are already are) but I think a lot of people are very put off by the Liberals right now, it's just blunder after blunder from them and most Australians don't tend to like Hard Right politics outside of retirement homes and deepest darkest Queensland. Murdoch has lost a lot of sway here fortunately outside of rich old men yelling on the radio and Sky News (Closest thing to Fox News in Aus which almost no one watches lol). Most Newspapers are dying off and only make profit through some pretty dodgy advertising deals these days (there was recently a giant spread about the benefits of coal in one recently, forgot which one). They're a bit of a laughing stock now days. The Liberals are pretty ignoring a lot of issues voters are concerned about. Climate change is a big one with the recent massive fish die off from poor water management in the murray darling basin and wild weather damaging and destroying homes. People are pretty upset at their piss poor reaction to these issues. Liberals also have a hard-on for coal power plants despite renewables becoming cheaper and more efficient. I'm gonna say it's a safe bet that Labour can form a minority government at least and a good chance for a majority one based off poles, but the question is how long they will stay in power? They'll have to clean up a lot of messes that the Liberals made that the Liberals will no doubt blame on Labour because it seems like that's the only real strategy they've had for the last 5+ years they've been in power. It's worked before for them before but I think lots of people are picking up on how BS their claims are, especially after all the in-fighting and spending scandals coming out this year and last. I'll be interesting to see the Effect Clive Palmer's advertising campaign will have. Clive Palmer has been advertising for months like the election is going to happen tomorrow but there's been a noticeable shift in tone recently. He been trying to position himself as an Australian version of Trump with a scare mongering about China (Despite taking Chinese money) but I think he won't go far outside of the gullible person vote. His ads are more annoying than anything at this point and I wouldn't be surprised if his party loses votes from over-advertising. I think he's gonna "steal" votes off some of the more looney right wing racist parties Like One Nation and whatever Fraiser Anning (guy who got egged) pulls out of his ass. I bet once his members have seats they're going to go independent from his party like last time.
bro you can get a proof of age card in vic for $10 that lasts 10 years.
the AEC requires either a drivers licence, passport or a second human being. So while it does do it's job, the proof of age card doesn't work here
I can’t recall ever registering to vote or changing my enrolment details ever being so complicated? If you do it online and you have to quote a drivers licence number, surely you’ve already memorised your driver’s licence number?
Why does labor continually try and pitch Shorten, he's incredibly unlikable, which is a huge image problem.
kick this mob out
Ive driven a car only 3 times
He certainly had an image problem against Turnbull, and I dare say even against Abbott. But I reckon Morrison has less charisma than Shorten. Of course, how charismatic the party leaders are ideally shouldn’t make a difference at the polls.
It's ideal, but not realistic unfortunately. Shorten will lose because he's unlikable, or it will be very close at best. Not a landslide like it should be after all that's happened.
Who would be a better candidate then? It's not exactly like Labor can bring Kevin 07 out of retirement. Shorten has name recognition within the public and doesn't have any outstanding controversy behind him (well besides from the sausage sandwich incident) so I can't see how he has a "huge" image problem.
They've a awkward handshake.
If we've learnt anything from the last decade, voting for a party because you think its leader will make a better prime minister is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Labor hasn't put any effort into this, because that would undermine Bill shorten. He has an image problem with dumbasses. Because he's unlikeable and lacks charisma people like Turnbull had. I think they will lose the election based on this and disinformation from the liberals.
oi tony where'd u put the nbn cunt
I don't wanna tell an Australian how things really are in Australia but Murdoch has successfully created an image problem for the past two Labour over here leaders out of almost nothing. The sausage Sandwich Incident? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1809/ab0a7e5f-77e7-4a87-8dd2-c2449fa93e9f/image.png Sounds awfully similar to the Bacon Sandwich incident. He's fucked.
Murdoch's reach is strong here as well, but it's not like if Labor switched candidates he wouldn't be able to forge a negative image for them as well. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58024/6d1f2904-e1f9-46c7-aaca-1ba7a49ac92e/image.png Actually on the other hand anyone else would do just fine.
People who vote based on how someone eats a banga sanga should not be allowed to vote
Bill Shorten being more uncharismatic is a right-leaning media narrative. Let's be honest, the last PMs weren't particularly charismatic either.
It's not a narrative lmfao. Watch parliament. Turnbull and Kevin Rudd were charismatic. This post stinks.
Any charisma that Turnbull had was completely undermined when he bent over backwards to let the more conservative elements in his party have their way in order to hold onto power just a little bit longer, for all the good that did him. Rudd's "charisma" got himself backstabbed when everyone in his party found him insufferable to work with. What we've had aren't charismatic people but megalomaniacs. What we need aren't "charismatic" people but people that actually care about the things that regular Australians care about.
