Also a small Facepunch appear in his video.
Epic CEO admits all the shitty behavior is his idea.
When does the facepuncher appear? I don't want to watch much of a YongYea video.

Jokes on you Tim, this is 2019 i can just scream a narrative hard enough and it becomes true, even with evidence to suggest otherwise.
@.matt
Official representative of Facepunch now.
Question, don't know much about this youtuber, but is there a reason for not watching him?
He kinda waffles on or just slowly quotes articles verbatim at times but that's only a pain when he's making a 6-10 minute video about one small paragraph.
When it's something extensive with multiple sources he's good at condensing it all appropriately.
I stopped watching him when I realized the video of his I was watching was him slowly reading an article I'd already read at triple the pace he was going. To his credit he did not read the entire article verbatim and instead quoted excerpted segments of the article, but the bulk of the video was the one article and he was still tediously reading out entire paragraphs. I had already gotten into the habit of pausing and scrubbing through to just read the text on the screen myself and take advantage of him compiling info, but that was just too much.
If, like, you've got him playing in the background while you go for your jog or your exercise bike time after work or some shit, cool, he's basically an audiobook and when your hands are busy that's super useful. But I don't need that for my gaming news.
I think Yong means well in his videos, but he often drags out simple paragraphs articles to like 15 minutes for no reason.
10 minute+ money mark.
Love how the comments section of the video is just hyper focused on the whole "I don't trust Tim Sweeney so him saying it's not spyware isn't true!" narrative, and just brushes off the actual findings that conclude it not being spyware. Confirmation bias at its absolute worst.
At this point, I really do fear the whole spyware narrative is just gonna take away from the actual discussion that needs to be had about EGS, and like all heated internet debates that spiral out of control, will eventually cause the debate to blow over and die out. Who knows, maybe that's what Epic is banking on happening.
And yeah, Yong means well, but you have to go into his videos with the mindset of them being for people who are too lazy to read articles and would rather have someone read them for them. His videos on "leaks", while following the same format, are generally better than his "industry news" videos I feel, but his content isn't bad. Just a bit too "verbatim" at points.
Making a video over 10 minutes doesn't automatically make more money, the ability to add multiple ad breaks once the vid is over 10 minutes long does. Though not everyone does that for obvious reasons.
We have significant, rational, valid reasons to be afraid of China right now, it's not "xenophobia". Look at the shit they're getting away with in Australia and New Zealand and then tell me otherwise.
what
that has literaly nothing to do with racism or xenophobia lol
Ladies and Gentlemen, the man who wrote the famous threads
In all my years of following gaming and tech, this is generally what happens. Once gamers have collectively made up their mind on someone or something being good or bad, they'll reject any and all evidence to the contrary and lap up anything that sounds good to satisfy their sense of vindication, even if it was made up on the spot or even has anything to do with the original perceived transgression. "I am [person you're pissed at] and I can confidently say that you're all mistaken in your anger." "YOU'RE LYING!" "Here's proof I'm not." "FAKE AND GAY!" "Hi, I'm [rival of person you're pissed at]. [Person] drinks the blood of infants." "SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THEY'D DO!"
And then everyone gets bored after several months pass, at which point we get to the "aggressively apathetic" phase where anyone still talking about something is screamed at to shut up and move on because the group-think has already passed its judgement. Then everyone forgets because gamers have the attention span of a gnat and years down the line you get a sort of re-discovering of the whole incident and those very same people from that mob asking in a genuinely curious tone, "Wow, what were we so pissed about?"
I don't think it's xenophobic to be wary of the Chinese government (though I did admittedly state that in a thread in the middle of a heated debated which was very stupid of me), but I do think that going in and assuming things as fact that just haven't been proven simply due to an association with a Chinese entity is maybe taking that wary-ness a bit too far.
The Chinese government is pretty goddamn sketchy (putting it VERY lightly), but assuming a non-Chinese company is obedient to the wishes of Winnie the Pooh because of receiving any amount Chinese money is just a big jump to make, because by that logic, China has their hands in everything and probably have already profiled our lives by now. Heck by that extension, every major economical power house of a country is probably doing the same without us knowing it.
Logic and reasoning get lost in these scenarios, and that's really a shame. In the end, I guess I don't mind accusations like this being thrown around because it gets people to investigate, but I feel we should always be investigating first, and throwing accusations later by default if anything is found that warrants them.
You're not wrong to be paranoid of the Chinese (or any) government. Hell, I am. Just keep a clear head and exercise logic is all. Screaming and believing things without hard evidence just makes you look crazy, and nothing kills a narrative in the public eye like the people behind the narrative appearing to be crazy.
I really don't want that to happen with the debate surrounding EGS, because there are points that really need to be discussed regarding it. However, I feel as this spyware argument keeps gaining traction and keeps disregarding fact, it'll only result in the public perception of anyone who is against the practices of EGS to be viewed as delusional. Thus, the movement loses weight while potentially attracting others to the opposite side.
If for any reason you disagree with my stances here, that's fine. I respect your opinion.
afaik the youtube algorithm heavily favours videos that are 10min+, this is also why animators and animations which are usually 30 seconds - 3minutes are struggling.
man they are actually calling the shots on our freedom to criticise them in our own country.
It does not boil down to just xenophobia.
You're supposed to be Facepunch's representative, you're not accurately showing this Fo- actually wait.
I have something called the "Epic Games Launcher", only used for Unreal Engine. Is this the same thing?
yeah the Epic Games Launcher and Epic Games Store are the same application
There goes my fucking dream of being able to make a game.
I bought a $100 plugin and downloaded some other plugins for it.
Reading through all of this, I don't know if I want to help the Chinese government.
Bruh just get UE4, its a goodass engine to work with. The spyware shit is debunked (for now) and the store part of the launcher is literallt irrelevant to gamdev on UE4.
Also its not like its the only engine out there lol
