https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47891737 Mr Assange took refuge in the embassy seven years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden over a sexual assault case that has since been dropped. The Met Police said he was arrested for failing to surrender to the court.Ecuador's president Lenin Moreno said it withdrew Mr Assange's asylum after his repeated violations to international conventions. Copied the article as it's very short but I expect it to get updated. I heard Assange was recently causing trouble, I wonder if he'll be extradited to Sweden or the USA now that Sweden dropped the charges.

Hopefully this would shed some light on Russia's involvement with the control over Wikileaks.
Hold onto your butts everyone, wouldn't surprise me if things suddenly got a whole lot more leaky with Assange getting arrested.
Wikileaks has lost most credibility by now.

True, but that doesn't stop them from leaking something they had on standby in the event that anything happened to him, given the current situation probably something pertinent to the UK government or parties wishing to see him in prison. And in that clip all I can make out is "UK Resist"
I wouldn't be surprised if wikileaks drop some of their insurance files, even moreso if/when he gets extradited.
Its a weird 10 years for Wikileaks. Wikileaks going from a group releasing some really important stuff, to being a weirdly puppeted organisation has been strange to follow.
Hasn't Wikileaks been compromised by Russia for a long time now? I can't think of them as any kind of credible source anymore.
Nobody does, that's why their published documents don't make headlines anymore after 2016.
Well it'd be a hell of a lot ironic if he's now ranting about the tyranny of the administration he very much conspired to get elected. Eat your cake, shove it right down your throat and choke on it.
The Assange you're thinking of has been long gone by now. Same with Wikileaks. Its nothing but a Russian Puppet.
This is stupid. Thinking he deserves to be arrested because they revealed dirty emails about party X in the US elections? Fuck that. What about the wrongdoings of the CIA and NSA that he revealed? And about the other countries in the world? Is he suddenly a villain because he picked a side in the US elections? Is he a bad guy because they revealed shady stuff about politicians? I can't understand americans, they get butthurt when someone touches their election system and a guy like Trump gets elected. Suddenly everything that WikiLeaks did for the sake of freedom of press and defense of human rights is negated because they favoured a political party over another. Fuck that.
I think he might have been saying "The UK has no civility" before switching to "The UK must resist."

This really isn't very complicated. He's a villain because Julian Assange, and Wikileaks, had a stated goal of government transparency. Withholding information simply because it didn't support the political party they wanted to support is blatantly hypocritical and works completely against their stated goal. This calls into question whether all of their previous releases were politically motivated as well and definitely harms the credibility of any future releases they may make. It doesn't matter that he supported the Republicans. It also wouldn't make it any better if it had been the Democrats instead. It's the fact he turned a nonpartisan transparency organization into a partisan propaganda machine that matters.

Wake up and smell the polonium.
I'm having a hard time wording this, but I'm going to try anyway. Assange's stated goal in the beginning was to expose the (often nefarious) back room affairs of various organizations in the name of transparency. In light of what transpired in 2016 and his blatant bias therein, he failed. He showed that his stated goal was little more than a facade. I remember reading the threads when he first sought out asylum, and the defiant confidence he exhuded in the first photos from shortly before and after moving to the embassy. And now we see him utterly unkempt and disheveled, weakly mumbling and twitching as he is dragged into the van, and by extension to certan extradition. He looks like a madman whose mind is long gone. It always hurts me to see someone make such a physical transformation for the worse. Despite the things he has done, I can't help but feel a small amount of pity for him.
I wonder if they'll treat him like Chelsea Manning, consigned to the torture of solitary for the rest of his life. Still, he deserves whatever happens to him I guess, and hopefully Snowden is next. He should have put more faith in the government to assess his crimes fairly, instead of allying with a foreign power. I'm sure that he would be a free man due to the injustices he uncovered.
Nice Transphobia you got there.
That rozzer is incredibly smug looking. He gets an extra 5 minutes loicense of unfiltered pornography courtesy of Her Royal Highness' chief pornographer
Blind trust in gov to do the right thing is how you get facism or Stalinism No way would i trust them if i was him. Fuck. That. Having people leak gov scum fuckery is way important, we need more people exposing them
i mean i get that him blowing his mission statement and transparency sucks and he does too but i fail to see how that suddenly means his arrest is okay? sounds to me like you don't care because he didn't back your horse
Assange thought he might become a chessmaster and sold out to russia instead of sticking to his original stated aims about being supposedly impartial, one size fits all for each state. Even if he didnt sell out to russia, his selective leaking made me question his supposed honesty, because I hate accelerationist bullshit. I believe that persons should maintain transparency and consistency in a cause, but at the same time I consider rigid ideologues who will use any means to get their points across are little better than savages, especially if they fail to grasp the potential consequences of their actions leading to more harm than good. Or to sum up, if he was so interested in transparency he should have leaked both what he had on donald trump as well as hillary clinton while keeping far fucking away from the likes of Putin and the GRU. I don't envy him for what's going to happen to him, but he should have realized that you cant serve both the truth and a temporal master at the same time without there being eventual consequences. If he was hell-bent on being all about the truth, he should have stuck to that, and that's all.
